For the first Fuse of the new student year we welcome the return of Annie Mac Presents!
Annie has established herself as one of the most important names on British radio today, with her hugely popular Friday night show on Radio 1 which is a platform for the best new music from across the dance music spectrum. Playing anything from electro, dubstep, to techno or drum and bass, it is difficult to overstate her influence on the scene, with countless acts coming to prominence through her featuring of their music. The now famous mini mix section on the show allows DJs to showcase their sets condensed into a five minute time frame, with DJs such as Jamie XX, Chase & Status, Crookers and Doorly all taking up the challenge.
She is also a hugely accomplished club DJ, her sets as upfront, eclectic and exciting as her shows. She DJs around Europe, often hosting nights under her Annie Mac Presents brand at festivals such as Bestival, Creamfields and RockNess, as well as clubs such as Koko and Fabric. She also regularly appears on BBC2’s The Culture Show as a music critic.
Jack Beats smashed their way onto the scene a couple of years ago with a series of remixes for the likes of Boy 8 Bit, Deekline and AC Slater. Their style was a rough and ready mix of ghetto house, UK Garage bass lines, hip hop samples and breaks. Causing much speculation about who they were. Their identity was later revealed as Scratch Pervert Plus One and fellow turntablist turned producer Beni G of the Mixologists. Hervé quickly snapped them up for his Cheap Thrills label, their debut single What featuring Reprazent’s MC Dynamite. They’ve since put out massive remixes for the likes of La Roux, Florence and the Machine and Fake Blood, released their U.F.O. EP, recorded a storming Essential Mix for Radio 1 and toured the globe playing venues and festivals such as Fabric, Space, Eden, Bestival and Glastonbury.
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – signed to the Hot Chip-affiliated Greco-Roman Records - has found huge fans in the likes of Rob Da Bank, The Guardian and Annie Mac with his hyperactive blend of electro, rave, garage and house. His live show is unlike anything you’ve seen or heard before, and never fails to set the crowd alight – see recent appearances at KOKO, Camden Crawl and That Mixmag Thing for proof!
