Matt, It wasn't the "quality Underground House" i'd come to expect from slide; i know how bands work i've been to many gigs and festivals and these guys were poor.
Playing to the masses is fine if that's what you want to do but it's a slippery slope all the way down to brown eyed girl and the YMCA ;-)
The bar was rammed most of the time i was there,so you probably made a lot of money but please get back to what you do best and put on good parties for the party people!
I don't want to put a downer on this. If you had a great time that's cool but my friends and I went home and had a better party than when we were at the bingo hall.
...Just my experience.

maybe turning up at 2am helped then :)

I think by only having one huge room, it is harder to keep everyone happy all night long, at least with two rooms, if one dj doesn't float your boat you can go for a walk and try something new.

lots of space to dance was nice as well, there seemed to be pockets of people all doing there own thing and it was easy to move around and catch up with friends etc. I had a lot more fun than up in the warehouse project in manchester, the sound was really poor for the venue although there were two rooms to mix and match.

who was that mystery dj at the end playing all those classics?! ;-)

I'm not sure - but what a talent...

Last night a DJ saved my life with.... Whitney Houston...?! but I won't forgive you for not playing MC Hammer!

Pics??

A handful here, although I saw plenty of other DSI'ers with cameras shoved in peeps faces...

for the limited time I was there I had a proper boogy, J to the double D dubya particularly rocking my socks off. What was the remix of the prodigy song you played before handing over?

Thanks, man. It's a naughty little booty which probably won't get a full release methinks... some peeps calling themselves "Mantrix" on the mash-up. There ain't many who can pull off a good remix of the Prodigy... what a corker =D

An amazing amount of effort must have gone into setting up the venue for the night - thanks again guys for the fun and frolics! I thought the music held the diverse crowd very well. Looking forward now to the 12th with Neil and me.

Dave, please clarify that you didn't hear tunes like this?! I was on the front door most of the night working.

If you had stayed beyond 2am, James Weston, Neil Simpson and Si Yeats were playing quality underground house and techno all the way (obviously with a good proportion of big house tunes thrown), and for the warm-up, until about 11pm, there was some more party-orientated stuff thrown in. By their very nature, New Years' Eve parties tend to lean towards the big tunes.

As I said before Dave, we will take your comments on board, let's not drag this discussion out any further. Apologies if you didn't particularly enjoy yourself. See you down at Slide and Simple again very soon!

Hang on a wee minute people...there were 15 DJ's (YES a big 15) some may say too many but everyone's musical tastes were catered for. Put your jaws back in and quit your whining.

Everyone was on top form (oh yes!) and NYE stands for a night of Narcotic Youthful Energy and that was certainly achieved...

"It wasn't the "quality Underground House" i'd come to expect from slide" - "YMCA"!?!?! - HUH?!? Have you tried to recall what you swallowed that night?

I think you need some love.

Let's not knock Dave too much guys!

He's a regular and always speaks his mind on DSI.

I'm glad that there's plenty of good feedback though. Thanks to Rhiannon for doing the guestlist as well!

*chuckles*

Group hug all

the bouncers were really good too, they were forcefully polite to a couple of people miffed at not getting back in, (obviously hammered.com) and actually listened to my plea to have a chat with a promoter to gain entry (even though I didn't have a ticket). Normally "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!!!" doesn't work ;)

They can really ruin a night sometimes, by getting their ego's in the way of the jobs. These chaps were spot on.

i'm a little bit confused by your comments dave,

When you say "quality underground house" i'm assuming you mean non-commercial, non-mainstream house music?

It's just that every dj who played that night did mostly play what i would consider to be underground house music, (along-side other styles i.e.- breaks, indie, d&b, electro.)

I can say that personally the most commercial tune i played in my set was a remix of s'express.

I think its fair to say that most of the dj's that night played remixes of tunes which may be considered to be more "mainstream", but it was all done in good flow and worked well on the crowd.

Prior to midnight (the warm-up party set) i was playing a mixture of party tunes but i can say that NONE of these were commercial or mainstream!! i.e. - they have never been near the charts, daytime radio, or the legendary dance floor of park end!!!! (as much as i love brown eyed girl & ymca!!!) ;-)

Apologies if you were'nt really feeling what i was playing, i just hope that the rest of the people there enjoyed it and had a good time.
