First Time Spotter, Long Time Dancer

This article is about SLIDE with PAUL WOOLFORD @ The Zodiac in Oxford (UK), Fri 09 Feb 2007

You know you're going to have a good night, as a headlining DJ, when you ride in on the back of your own production that took many a club and festival by storm last year. Making his entrance known with a little Erotic Discourse, Paul Woolford landed on top of Oxford with a resounding thud.

The Slide regulars were up for the night, just like every other night that's been run underneath the Slide banner. This was also to be the night I would chose to share in the spotting duties for the first time. Don't know what took me so long to do it in the first place!

Wooly was on a mission Friday night, flooding the top floor of the Zodiac with electro-fied bass lines, and some filthy tweaking on the high ends. The count stands at two for seeing Mr. Woolford play the way he does. The first being Club Class with Danny Tenaglia at Ministry of Sound. Woolford followed up the Brooklyn legend that night, and proved his charge over the Slide crew in the room on this occassion.

Wrapping up his two-hour set, which began ideally at 1 a.m., Paul Woolford wrapped it up for Slide resident Lee Mortimer. Continuing in the same vein as Woolford, Mr. Mortimer extended the crowd's enjoyment with a bit more jacked-up electro. Have only taken-in Mortimer a handful of times; I was reminded at how tight he can blend the sounds coming from his CD-Js.

Now with that being said, it meant Mr. Woolford was free for a quick chat. Much to this Canadian House Head's surprise, Paul outlines his travel schedule for the next while, and a stop in my frigid home town of Winnipeg was on the books (playing alongside Ali of Deep Dish)!

Thanks be to house music for making the clubs in the cities around the world truly connected. You go just about anywhere and find the beats, and somehow manage to trace it back to your original destination.

Hey Matt. Glad you liked the article.
If ever there's an opportunity to sit down and chat with yourself, and any other visiting DJ (for that matter) please let me know.
I'd like to contribute in whatever way possible!

Cheers!
