Monthly Mayhem The Relaunch!! Thursday April 17th The Loft,Bourne.
Review by Briggsy
It’s Thursday night and it’s usually one of the most annoying days of the week, it’s nearly the weekend but it’s not quite here. However instead of having to put up with the usual inane drivel on telly we’ve heard there’s a party on tonight & it’s hosted by the guys at Monthly Mayhem, so we know it’s going to be worth leaving the house for. Midweek parties is what these guys do, last year it was Monday night’s at Olivers in Huntingdon broadcast live on the net for Hardcore revolution radio, now it’s Thursday night’s in a small town called Bourne in lincs.

We’ve never had the pleasure of visiting Bourne before and you know when you’re in the middle of nowhere when you are 10 miles away and there’s still no sign posts for the place. However after the mission of finding the place, when we finally arrived and walked up the stairs to the club we knew it was worth the trek. As you walked in was a good sized bar, perfect for the Thursday night sessions and beyond that was a decent enough sized dance floor with a more than capable sound system & the usual excellent lighting (And lasers of course) plus as always the Monthly mayhem Logo at the centre of the stage. Looking around you knew the guys at monthly mayhem had done it again, found another little intimate venue perfect for these midweek sessions!
We’d arrived just in time to catch the beginning of Petruccio & Obie. Talk about starting the night off with a bang! This is why this guy has had bookings at the likes of uproar, Htid in the Sun, Weekender & most of the big parties in the UK, definitely a DJ for the future. A set full of the usual euphoric hand’s in the air vocal hardcore was expected and delivered in true style. Top tune selection, Excellent mixing and some scratching too, accompanied by usual high standard of Mcing of Obie of the Mic. By the end of this set the dacefloor was filling nicely with ravers probably quite a few of whom hadn’t planned to dance too much tonight but with these tunes banging out they just couldn’t resist doing their stuff on the dancefloor.

Next up was the main attraction of the night. DJ Gammer & Mc Whizzkid. These two are two of the biggest names in uk hardcore, and it’s obvious to see why as this pair have an abundment of talent, and it seems they really enjoy working with each other too. This set pretty much carried on from the last set with a selection of tunes probably aimed at a more commercial crowd but this wasn’t to say there wasn’t a good selection of “True Hardcore” ravers in the club by this time. The amount of tunes gammer manages to squeeze in to an hour’s set never ceases to amaze and some real slammers were played here with the likes of “Flashlight” “Girlfriend” “Don’t stop Go” and “The Tunnel” to name but a very few. With Whizzkid hyping the crowd on the mic like only he knows how and the crowd singing along with all his lyrics, this was beginning to feel more like a Saturday night than a Thursday night as this was turning in to be one power hour of a set.
It was not just all about this hour though, from start to finish this night was a belter. The thing you will find with a lot of parties in the uk is that they book one Big name to get the crowds in and the rest of the night turns out to be a big disappointment. The difference with Monthly mayhem is that the big names are there, but the smaller names are of a high standard too. These artistes seem to be well chosen to accompany who else is on. For example any of the names featured on this night could easily have been playing at the big raves we go to week in week out.It wasn’t only the names mentioned above but also Audiojunkie & Stylus who i have to admit hadn’t heard before as far as i was aware, ended the night with yet another wicked set, which left everyone really sad at the end to have to leave. It seems Monthly mayhem are keen to promote the top up & coming’s and new Dj’s and give them a chance, something you have to admire them for.

All good things must come to an end and by the time 2am came around there was two thoughts amongst the ravers in the place 1) it was too early to finish & 2) That they had to be at work in a few hours. However, despite this they really weren’t bothered because this night out was worth every effort, and with the announcement that the next instalment will stay on til 3am and the Boss Mr Hixxy is headlining they’ll all be there again for the next midweek session on a Thursday night in this sleepy little town called Bourne! There’s a new saying around these parts “The weekends Start on Thursdays Now!” & How true that is!!
Shouts to John, Peter, Ellen, Kell’s bells, Adam, Emma & Blayne & All the usual Faces & Monthly mayhem crews!
