Twisted Mayhem interview D4rk

Hi Adam,
thanks for taking time out to answer a few questions just before your set @ Club 8 for Twisted Mayhem.

Ok lets start with your DJ name, how did you come about this twisted DJ name?

Hey. Well it’s was either Diva or D4rK, but I think I made the right decision! It’s origins come from my days before DJing where I used to spend many hours in front of a PC screen drawing 3D images and animations. Then from online gaming in the form of Halflife Counterstrike… and then I got a life.. and here we are!!

As most of us know already you love dressing up and looking pretty impressive for any set you play, how long does this normally take you? And is this a thing you do at home or backstage just before you go on?

I’m starting to worry about these makeup and outfit questions, it doesn’t do my street credibility any justice!
The sensible answer is it can take anything from 10 minutes to an hour, depending on bad hair and skin days!
After this interview I’m off for a Brazilian, a San Tropez and to get a French manicure.

You have just released ‘Sexy Be4st’ and is now available to download on Trackitdown.net, what is your inspiration when producing such tracks?

There’s always ideas going round and round in my head, when I’m driving, at the gym, running, during meetings, touching myself(!), in fact most of the times when I should be concentrating on something else and don’t actually have the ability to note them down or have the opportunity to actually get in front of the PC and start doing something with the ideas!
With Sexy Be4st, I just happened to flicking through the mind numbing selection of crap on Sky and stumbled across the movie Sexy Beast. I literally caught the clip of the film I’ve used in the track and knew something D4rk and nasty had to be done with it!
It’s been one of the most successful releases on D4rK R3CORDS with it being signed to a German Hardstyle album “Hands up for HardStyle Vol.3”, so it must have been fate to catch that clip on TV!

If you had a choice to pick your dream venue and line up, including your self of course, where and who would it be?

Sensation Black, Amsterdam Arena, Amsterdam!! Everyone from this years party plus ME!!
If you want me to be more specific, then Donkey Rollers, The Prophet, Evil Activities, D-Block & Stefan, Showtek (if he promises not to play FTS!) HeadHunterz, Brennan Heart, Dragan, The Pitcher, Da Tweekas, and Andy Whitby of course, haha!

What made you go into the harder side of dance? And what age did this start at?

well I didn’t get these young boyish good looks from just a couple of years out partying!! I started in 1991 with Rave, into Hardcore, Techno, Drum and Bass, back into Techno then I guess Hard House and Hard Trance. I always liked the darker side of the music throughout all that time. Specific people I can remember(!) include Ed Rush, the Music Maker, DJ Die, Doc Scott, Jumping Jack Frost and of course not forgetting Colin Dale and Colin Favor playing on Kiss FM and inspiring me to go to my first event.
Oh the good old days!!
So I guess I’ve always been a Dark little f*cker, always wanting to experiment with the harder, darker side of music, and Hardstyle gives me that opportunity!

As some of us know you have a successful record label in ‘D4rk Records’, as a producer and DJ you are always working on new material, is there anything you are working on now? If so when will it be released?

Oh there’s always exciting stuff coming out on D4rK R3CORDS!! Not just from myself, but from other artists such as DJ Caled, Double D (aka Dixon & Dempz).
DJ Caled’s awesome “Come On” will be released next weekend, following that a new one from myself called “Our Leg4cy”.
I’ve also been approached to run a new HardStyle Label called Presence Hardstyle alongside Carl Nicholson, and there’s two new tracks lined up for release at the end of this month.
D4rK “4th Element” and Double –D “Do You Wanna Live”.

As your set @ Twisted Mayhem gets closer will you be hitting the Twisted Mayhem crowd with any new material?

As you’re painfully aware, I’ve been so busy lately, my quality time with my PC and thoughts has been somewhat limited!
I do however always try to introduce something unique to any D4rK set that I play that no-one else has, whether it’s a promo from myself or an associated D4rK R3CORDS artist.
Additionally I have found a very sexy intro to fit the Heaven vs Hell theme!!

Last but not least, are you looking forward to your forth coming set @ the impressive Club 8 for Twisted Mayhem?

You know me, any opportunity to get out of the house and see the big wide world out there!
Of course I’m very much looking forward to it. It’s been on my calendar for a number of months and I’m very excited about playing at a new Venue and sharing the D4rkstyle with the South Coast massive!! You certainly like it Harder down there so it’s match made in Heaven, or should I say Hell?!!

Thanks again Adam for taking time out to answer a few questions :)
