This article is about Incendiary Presents... 4by4 featuring Incendiary, Out of Order, Out-Break & Redemption! @ Havana in Portsmouth (UK), Sat 24 Nov 2007
This Saturday sees something truly exciting happening in the Portsmouth scene. Incendiary presents 4BY4 @ The Havana Bar brings together four of the South coasts cutting edge promotions: Incendiary, Out Of Order, Out-Break and Redemption to form one big night that aims to put the fun back into clubbing with special touches like a chillout room and massages.
Out of Order (OOO) was started by Dash-K, Matty Phact and Si Stylus. They have been promoting nights across the South and in London for five years and have hosted some cracking headliners from Judge Jules to Dave Pearce, from Superfast Oz to Phil Reynolds, and have even hosted an event with Tidy at Es Paradis this year on the legendary White Isle.
"This House is Out of Order" is the newest OOO brand especially for house/electro music, that was launched at the start of this month hosting a room at Smartie Partie's 12th birthday at Turnmills. Taking over 200 people with them OOO have firmly cemented their mark on the house scene. With tonnes planned for next year and a new Website bringing all the brands together due to launch before Christmas there's plenty to look out for!
Ahead of 4BY4 I thought a little Q&A was in order to help you get to know us all a bit more! With Part 1 I caught up with Dash-K and Gary Stalker.
Dj name: Dash-k Styles played: Funky house, Electro, Trance, Hard dance.
How did you get involved with Out of Order?
Well seems so long ago now, it’s coming up to five years and it all started in a pub in Andover called The Swallow. Myself (Kevin Blundy) Matty Phact and Si Stylus set Out Of Order up because our local home Enzos closed. This was the best underground club around and there were so many followers that didn’t want to stop clubbing so we started our own events in the form of Out Of Order. Our first event was a huge success pulling in over 340 people which is a lot considering the capacity was 150.. The queue was huge and people were leaving the local club “Life” to come to our night! From here we have gone through some ups and downs and have always stood strong through them, with line ups from Captin Tinrib, Superfast Oz through to Lisa Lashes, Judge Jules, Dave Pearce and the Tidy Boys. We have excelled in 5 years with lots more in store for next year, watch this space…
Who are your dj heroes and influences?
Well in my early days of hard dance it was Andy Farley got on well with him and he taught me a few tricks in mixing, as for now well you can’t beat Armin van Buuren he is quality and I love trance at that level, it’s just really hard to get gigs playing it unless your Paul van Dyk or "I’m a van driver" lol. I think there’s a dutch theme. As for now I’m influenced by Ian Carey and Thomas Gold in my house music.
What’s your favourite setup for djing?
My setup at home is 2 x Pioneer CDJ 1000 Mk3s, a DJM 800 and 2 x 1210s Mk5g and Cerwin Vega monitors. You have to have good monitors, it’s the law!!!
What’s your favourite house tune and will you be playing it on Saturday?
Well there are a lot of good tunes out there at the moment but probably it would be Ian Carey presents the Good Guys - Lose Control, and I might you’ll have to wait and see.
Dj name: Gary Stalker Styles played: Vocal hard dance, electro house
Well by being in the right place at the right time! I was in a music shop and overheard the one and only Mr Kev Blundy talking to the bloke behind the counter saying that he was lookin for a dj for a hard dance nite he was doing at Stryx in Andover, so I said I'd love to play and things just went from there really. I'm now a resident dj for Out of Order, Nite Life and have a tri-monthly residency for Smartie Partie at Turnmills.
I don't really have a dj influence as such but if i had to say it would be Andy Whitby for his technical skill behind the decks. Also Dave Spoon for his production.
What’s your favourite setup for djing? It would have to be Pioneer CDJs, DJM 600 or 800 an you will never beat the trusted 1210s. The headphones I'm usin are Sennheiser HD25ii.
What’s your favourite house tune and will you be playing it on Saturday? There are so many good tunes to choose from but one that's doing it for me has to be Big Bass - What You Do (Playing with Stones) Vocal mix. Will I be playing it on saturday? 'Course I will!!
Hope to see you all Saturday dancin' your *?!#% off! Thanks boys! Part 2 with Colin Knox and myself (K8-e) coming next!
