Dav Gomrass - Slinky Resident in the Hot Seat!

Slinky: Hey Daviiiiid! It’s been a long time since you’ve done a Slinky interview… First things first, are you looking forward to your Portsmouth debut and what can the clubbers expect from your 2 hour warm up set?
Dav: 2 hours? You never told me that – Woop! I’m seriously looking forward to belting out some tunes for ‘The Slinky Massive’. I was really impressed with the club on the launch night. Everyone involved did a wicked job. The layout is brilliant so I’m raring to go on the 10th August. People can expect to hear some nice techy bits to start & then I’m gonna be building up toward my more familiar trancey sound. I’ve got loads of new tunes & they are gonna blow the roof off. Keep your ears peeled for my new track aswell. 2 hours – YEESSSS. I’m even more excited now. GET THERE EARLY PEOPLE!

Slinky: You’ve been in the studio recently, tell us a bit about that.
Dav: Yes, finally! I’ve been wanting to get my head down & make a track for ages & now I’ve finally done it. Not on my own though… I got together with a very talented up & coming producer, Martin Jarvis who produces under the name ‘Acute’. He’s had some of his tunes played out by the likes of Armin, Lisa Lashes, Anne Savage, Mike Koglin, John O’Callaghan & the god that is PVD. This guy is going places for sure! (check out his myspace for more of his tunes - www.myspace.com/acuteuk) We sat down & he asked me what I wanted to make so we came up with some ideas & sounds, put them together & created a track that we’re very happy with. We’re very excited about it. The track kinda has a late 90’s feel & sound to it. Very energetic & uplifting, with a solid bass line to it. The break is very late 90’s. It’s unnamed at the moment so again keep your ears peeled. Check it out @ www.myspace.com/davgomrass

Slinky: Have you got any more tunes in the pipeline?
Dav:
Not yet but this track isn’t going to be the last. I’m hoping to get together with Martin again very soon so expect to hear some more production from us.
Production is something that everyone has been asking me about, when am I gonna get on the case with it? Well now that I’ve had the chance to get involved with a first track I just want to do it even more now. It’s never really interested me until now, I’ve always just been happy with just DJ’ing to be honest. I’m sure something will be sorted within the next couple of months now I’ve got the buzz.

Slinky: What else have you been up to?
Dav: Erm, I’ve not really been up to much to be honest. Since Slinky finished weekly in Bournemouth there hasn’t been much to do at the weekends. There’s the odd night in town every so often but nothing on the scale of what Slinky was. However I like to go & support nights such as Frenzy or pop down to Dusk Till Dawn for the odd night of dirty music I’ve ventured out of town a bit as well to visit some other nights such as ‘Peach’ which was at Heaven. That was a really good night, with the likes of Abel Ramos, Mark Norman & the Legend that is Graham Gold playing. I’d never been to Heaven before so it was good to check it out & I had an excellent time there. Hopefully Graham will book me one night (hint, hint, if you’re reading Graham! ;-p) That was a really good night out as well, they put on a great party. I went to ‘Fire It Up’ at KOKO, Marcel Woods blew the roof off with tuneage. And Guiseppe Ottaviani played a wicked live performance – You deffo need to book this guy for Pompey Alicio. (Well best keep your fingers crossed eh!)
And of course there was Slinky in Pompey the other week. As I’ve already said, you all did a bloody good job of the night. It was good to see so many of the Slinky faithfull there to support the launch.
Other than that, my day job, my hair falling out (he woke up one morning with a totally bald circle on the side of his head!) & the production there hasn’t been much going on in the life of Dav. Am I getting old?

Slinky: Alright, alright, enough of the plugging other nights, who’s side are you on?! ;-) What’s your favourite Slinky gig been so far?
Dav: Hmmmmm – Good question. There have been some quality times playing for Slinky so it’s hard to pick out 1 gig. I think I’d have to say that NYE’s of 2003/04 & 04/05 were up with some of the best times. However I think the last Slinky at The Opera House was such an amazing night that I would say it was my favourite time playing for Slinky. Just the emotion that was coming from the dance floor made it an extra special time playing to The Slinky Crowd & what made it extra special was playing back to back with Graham Gold. I bet it did! ;-)
The crowd were so up for it that night even though it was a sad night. Highlight of the night had to be playing Freefall – Skydive to a packed dance floor. Oh my golly golly gosh, what a moment.

Slinky: Seeing as you are playing at a Slinky vs Tidy night I thought I’d ask… are you tidy?
Dav: Me Tidy? No I’m far from tidy for sure, I’m a real messy sod to be honest. A few years back I used to get very messy. Is that classed as untidy? I’m clean though, very, very clean. I can’t leave the house without having a shower. And what is it with people who don’t wash their hands after going to the loo. ERGH!

Slinky: Ha ha ha ha. Tell Slinky a funny story about yourself or something not many people know, we want a bit of Davros inside information?
Dav: I was white in a former life. On a serious note – if this story can be taken seriously…… I think you’ll know this one Alice. It was one of the Tidy Boys Big Night Out gigs at The Opera House. The guys had just finished their set & everyone had left the club except all the staff & the odd drunken sole. I was so drunk I could barley stand up so I thought I’d have a short sit down. However I got a little too comfortable & fell asleep on the stage, I was out for the count. I was in such a deep sleep that no one could wake me up so the doormen put me in the recovery position & had to leave me there. I eventually woke up at 8am when the cleaners were buffing the dance floor. Sketch out!
Also another mad moment was a few years back. I’d been to play at PaSSion on a Saturday night & then had to play at a boat party on the Sunday. I’d had such a heavy weekend & I was pretty wrecked on the boat. I played the after party as well & it was there where for some reason I’d forgotten to put a record on the deck & started cueing up the slip matt. What a berk! (Ha ha ha ha ha ha, that’s much better than most people’s ‘ejecting the wrong CD anecdotes!)

Slinky: A bit more info from the deepest darkest corners of your brain? Top 5 tracks of all time, any genre of course!?
Dav: Well I’ve always been into dance music ever since I was a kid so this could be quite a narrow minded selection. SORRY!
1. Freefall - Skydive
2. Mauro Picotto – Iguana (Megavoices Mix)
3. Tony de Vit – Are You All Ready
4. N – Trance – Set You Free
5. Anything from Oasis’ – Definitely Maybe & What’s The Story albums.

Slinky: And now for our favourite… the quick fire round:
~ PVD or Armin? ~ PVD of course – The guy is a God!
~ Beer or spirits? ~ Beer – Always good to start & then when the beers start to take their toll move onto the JD.
~ Dancing or at the bar? ~ Dancing – I love dancing. I’m a Dancing Bean
~ Mexican or Italian? ~ What, Food or Women? There’s nothing like a South American Latino Lady. If it’s food then I’d go for Italian even though I’m Mexican.
~ After party or bed? ~ Both – I’m famous for going to after parties & falling asleep. So much that everyone named me ‘Sleepy Dav’. DOH! However if I don’t fall asleep then I love a good after party.
~ Fat soundsystem and a shit club or an ace club with a poo system? ~ Soundsystem - You can make your own fun in a shit club but the music has to sound the bollocks.
~ Arse, legs or tit’s? ~ Legs – I love legs… And feet, I have a strange foot fetish. By that I don’t mean I like to suck ladies toe’s, I just like the look of them.
~ Pink or brown? ~ Pink for sure.
~ Looks or personality? ~ A bit of both I guess. Although if you don’t make me laugh I’m gonna get bored of you pretty quick. So with that I’m gonna go with personality.

I think that’s it for the moment, short and sweet, just like you Oi - less of the short!!
