Signum deliver a classic interview for Slinky!

This article is about Slinky Classics @ Liquid and Envy in Portsmouth (UK), Fri 14 Sep 2007

When asked to name your favourite classic tunes of all time, a lot of tracks come to mind, but there are a few Signum tracks that always pop into the top 10 classic charts of both clubbers and DJ’s alike. With massive releases like ‘What ya got 4 me’, ‘Coming on Strong’ and ‘Pressure’ to name a few, alongside HUGE remixes like ‘ATB – 9pm (till I come)’, ‘Alice Deejay – Better off Alone’ and ‘Lost Tribe – Gamesmaster’, many of which making their way into the UK top 40, it’s easy to see why, when thinking of classic tracks, these guy’s instantly come to mind!!
Slinky are proud to welcome back… Signum!!!! *Applause*

Slinky: Hello boys! I’d like to start this interview by asking for your full names, location as you write this and your most embarrassing moment…
Ron: Hi y’all, it’s me, Ron Hagen, writing this from the studio back at home, while working on a remix and I must say it’s good to take a break and do this interview......? Well I’m the king when it comes to embarrassing moments… One time I went to this Queensday party in The Hague with over 100.000 people who are always completely pissed that night (including me). So I was dancing and at some point I tripped over a power cable that was on the ground… strange thing was, that I fell over, but didn’t fall on the ground, instead I just kept running while my head was near the ground, so whilst I couldn’t stop running, I couldn’t stand up straight either... I saw this fence coming towards me, closer and closer... there were 2 people in front of the fence and they saw me coming towards them with great speed, instead of stopping me, they just moved aside, and I landed with my head between 2 bars in the fence, and was completely stuck... A couple of my mates had to pull me out of this fence, and I had the worst pain in my head ever... hahaha
Pascal: Well I’m Pascal Minnaard, I’m writing it from my room back home in Zoetermeer (Holland). I have a lot of embarrassing moments unfortunately but gonna stick to one related to Dj-ing. One time we had to play at a New Years Eve party for Gatecrasher in Cardiff and we were about to get ready to start our set, I was wearing my headphones and found out that the wire was tangled up, so I started to fix it. But at some point the plug just shot out of my hand and flew straight towards the turntables, hitting exactly the needle on the record that was playing (Airwave by Rank 1)… so while in the break, the needle just flew over the record... there was a big noise, obviously everyone noticed…that was quite embarrassing!! But we all had a good laugh, even Scott Bond, who was playing at the time, couldn’t stop laughing....

Slinky: Now for a topical question. As you know, September 14th sees the return of Slinky Classics… What are your ultimate top 3 classic tracks?
Pascal: Born Slippy, Verracocha – Carte Blanche, oh and of course What ya Got 4 me ;-)
Ron: Zombie Nation, Airwave and Silence, Universal Nation (there are so many more, these were the ones that popped into my head first)

Slinky: And the worst 3 tracks EVER? (Any genre)
Pascal: Well everything from Scooter (but respect to the man in the ice cream van ;-)), Lene Alexandra - My boobs are ok & Crazy Frog.
Ron: Hmmmmm, I was going to mention Scooter as well… but the Ketchup Song is probably the worst annoying song ever, everything from Rammstein (cause that’s just to depressing for me, especially when you wake up with that playing on the radio) and anything from the Backstreet Boys!

Slinky: Reading your biography on your website (www.signum-djs.com) it is apparent that you are a pair of busy boys!! You must spend a lot of time together… I’m gonna ask this to each of you in turn…
Pascal… What annoys you the most about Ron?
Hahaha…well he farts while he’s snoring… but he will probably say the same thing about me!
Ron… What is Pascal’s most annoying habit?
Hahahaha... nice answer Pascal, well occasionally we sleep in the same room... (fyi we always ask for 2 separate beds) Ron always moans in his sleep, you know, like he’s having the wildest dreams... haha... Oh and did I already mention the worst farts ever... Sorry, mate ;-)

Slinky: Summer is coming to a close and I notice you’ve just got back from Ibiza, how did that go for you?? Any funny stories? (Everyone has at least one!!)
Pascal: Well it actually got delayed to another date, so we didn’t go yet… but I can tell you a story about that another time though ;-) Here’s another funny Ibiza moment instead. We had to play for Godskitchen and we were in the apartment after our set quite drunk (We’re starting to get the impression that you two are pissheads!) and we had a light canon on our balcony (as you do!!??!?!) so we tried to make the batman sign up in the air, we even cut out a bat shape out of a piece of paper… but unfortunately that didn’t work, so we had to come up with something else. Our hotel overlooked the beach… and a lot of couples were walking there in the dark, thinking they were alone… but they were wrong! (hehe) One couple started to make out in front of us... and at the climax we put on the light canon… right on there faces… and shouted POLICE!! You should have seen their faces… priceless! Hahaha!!

Slinky: Speaking of Ibiza… and I know this is old news now but it is one of my favourite ever films so it would be rude not to bring it up. You had your track – Coming on Strong featured on the hit film ‘Kevin and Perry Go Large’, which is an achievement of mass proportion. How did it feel when you found out that you were having a track featured on the big screen? Did you wet yourselves a little bit?
Pascal: When we first heard it we were really amazed, because it’s so cool to have one of your own tracks featuring in a movie, so we couldn’t wait to see it! I definitely wet myself… but I’m all dry now! Haha!
Ron: It was so cool... and there were a lot of big tracks in that movie, but ours was in there the longest, so it was a big honour... (Pascal you wet yourself? You should buy some diapers next time!)

Slinky: No doubt everyone has heard that the voting is now open for the DJ Mag top 100 DJ’s poll… here’s your chance to try and campaign for some votes and tell the Slinky massif why they should vote for you!!
Ron: We would love to be in the top 100, we’ve never been in there, so hopefully we’ll be in there this year, we made a lot of new tunes this year, a mix compilation, and played all over the globe, so if you believe we have rocked your night, don’t hesitate and vote for us! Yeah, vote for Signum!!!!! Come on peeps you can do it!!!!!

Slinky: You’ve recently mixed a brand new compilation that was released on 20th August. I’m lucky enough to have been sent a copy of this and it’s amazing. This is your first compilation, which is hard to believe from trance veterans like yourselves… Did you enjoy making this? Tell our readers how they can go about getting a copy of this…Pascal: Yeah it actually took a long time to finally make one (due to circumstances we never had the opportunity to do so) but now we finally did and we are really proud of it!! It’s really fun to select all the tracks you want to put on there… and it takes a long time to get it all right… but once it’s right it’s a lot of fun to make!! We’ve got a lot of great feedback, so we definitely want to do more in the future!! It’s already out in a lot of music stores in over more then 12 countries and you can also go to I-Tunes, B|eatport, Audiojelly, Amazon and the Armada website to download it… so go there now and get it!!!

Slinky: Now a bit about Signum – the men… Tell us something not many people know…
Pascal: Well… we are actually women ;-)
Ron: I play pro evolution soccer every night, with my mates God, Jezus, and Mozes, but i never seem to win, so strange? Don’t understand it....?

Slinky: ?!??!?!?!?!??!??!????? Are you drunk again? Maybe its just Hollands finest homegrown!?

Slinky: The grilling is nearly over and I’m gonna finish up on the traditional Slinky quick fire round…
Amsterdam or London?
Pascal: Londerdam
Ron: Amsterdam

Slinky or Gatecrasher?
Pascal: I can’t chose so it’s got to be Slincrasher ;-)
Ron: Same here

After party or bed?
Pascal: Hmmm… afterparty IN bed!! ;-)
Ron: A bed on the afterparty??

Comfort or fashion?
Pascal: Comfortable fashion
Ron: Comfort

Sweet or savoury?
Pascal: Spicy
Ron: Sweet

Pink or brown?
Pascal: Pink first then brown
Ron: Brink?

CD’s or vinyl?
Pascal: Definitely CD’s
Ron: I never thought I would say this, but CD’s!

Girls or boys?
Pascal: Definitely women
Ron: Girls (18+), women, aunts, grandma’s (just skip the last 2... haha)

Slinky: Cheers guys – See you in a few weeks x x x
Signum: Thanks for this in depth interview! And see you soon!!!!!!
