BATTLE ARENA'S 1st BIRTHDAY - INTERVIEW WITH HIXXY

First here's a profile on him:

Hixxy is from Portsmouth, UK and his DJ roots can be found with an obsession for US Hip Hop and Rap and watching DMX Championship Videos. In the early 90s when Rave culture was sweeping the UK, Hixxy got caught up in the tide. He met up with Ramos, Supreme and Sunset Regime and started playing out across the south coast of the UK.

In 1992 he met DJ Dougal at Dreamscape and a ledgendry partnership was born. Soon they created their own label... Essential Platinum. Hixxys big production break came in 1995 when he released, with the then MC Sharkey... Toytown, a massive hit. The tune was released by React Records and Hixxy had made a name for himself. In 1996 Hixxy released his first Album.. the Massive Bonkers series was born, the third installment went silver and was the biggest selling Hardcore series ever. By 1999 the Hardcores scene was dying and Hixxy was becoming disolusioned with the tracks being released and felt the scene had had it. After a lot of soul searching Hixxy felt he couldnt abandon a scene he had put so much energy, time and money into. A decision he is now glad he made, as by 2006 Hardcore was going from strength to strength, with lots of Raves, tunes and labels including his label Raver Baby.

Interview with the one and only HIXXY:

QM: 2006 has been a massive year for you with Raver Baby label/events. What can we expect from you over next year?

Hitd in the sun is the main thing we're working on at the moment and I'm thinking it will be LARGE!!!!!! also got loads of releases coming out as double and triple packs again

QM: You've played at some of the biggest hardcore nights in the country like Raver Baby, HTID and Slamin' Vinyl. Have you got one night, which stands out above the rest?

I always love the raverbabys and htid's obviously but I have to say west fest this year was amazing

QM: Your tracks have gone down a storm in clubs all around the country. Which one is your favourite and why?

One of my favourites is my way from back in the day & now I've just wrote a few new vocal tracks called sacrifice and take me with you which im pretty happy with

QM: If you could choose 1 dj to go b2b with who would it be?

If I was playing a non hardcore set it would have to be Andy c but hardcore I love playing back 2 back with sy we always have a good laugh

QM: Who's been your biggest influence?

1999 ish onwards ferry corsten and now I take a bit from most of the hardcore boys like styles, re-con, breeze, squad-e, dougal, gammer and sy and unknown for me the best producers out there.

QM: If you could change anything about the dance scene at the minute what would it be?

A tent a global next year which i am working HARD on getting with them at the moment but all get on the site and tell them - www.godskitchen.com

QM: I've spoke to some clubbers about there nights out and they always seem to remember a night from 1 tune. If 1 of your sets could be remembered by 1 song, which one would it be?

At the moment it would be a track called overload which is a remix I done with re-con.

QM: Favorite DJ?

SY just becuase his scratchin still amazes me!

QM: Favorite Producer

Styles and Re-Con

The only big difference is the NEW VENUE and NEW DATE.

NEW VENUE: THE LOUNGE (formally EQ), SOUTHSEA

Due to the unexpected closure of Prague and rather then cancelling the event, as we know from the phenomenal response just how much people were looking forward to this. Myself and Paul have dedicated ourselves to finding a suitable 2 Roomed replacement venue, and to do this we had no choice but to change the date.

Myself and Paul hope that this will not inconvenience our regular clubbers too much, and that if you are new too Battle Arena that this will not inconvenience you.

We hope that this will not in any way change peoples expectations of the night and we will endeavour as always to bring you the very best in Hardcore and Drum and Bass.
