Kiss My Bass is 1: a recap and celebration!

Well well well. Kiss My Bass is one year old. Obviously this isn't going to cause us any issues yet in a candle blowing scenario but I'm not sure any of us really knew what to expect back in May 2008 when the name was selected, the residents chosen and the wheels put in motion.

Starting life at the Havana Bar in Southsea, KMB was started by circus freak Fotza with the help of residents Neil Doc, Udy, Vol.1 (nee Aimz) and Eratik Behaviour (nee Dave Stevens). Each event featured 4 of the residents with 2 guests picked from the local scene. There were no hard and fast rules, keep it bassline, keep it dancefloor and see what happens.

Well what happened is it blew up, almost instantly. As word of mouth spread and each night saw more people (including a great beach party in the summer) it became apparent to Havana that KMB was the best bet for their NYE event. How right they were, a party from 9pm-6am featuring a smattering of local talent, bigger production and 350 party heads, it truly was a sight to behold.

As all this was going on one of our residents, Udy, got his head down and created www.kissmybass.co.uk as a place where both ourselves and other local djs can stick up there mixes and share the love and also as a spot where attendees of the nights could check out photos of the events and info on what's coming next from KMB. As the site has grown and developed it has steadily increased in its popularity and now receives a stack of hits everyday from countries all over the world so if you want to get your mix heard then feel free to send it our way!

Which brings us to 2009. Changes at Havana as well as our larger crowds meant it was time to seek a new venue and we chose The Lounge as our new home. A long standing club in Southsea, The Lounge has it's fair share of detractors so we were determined to make the Kiss My Bass housewarming a special one. NYE had given us some leeway to start looking at outside talent so who better to head up the new debut but MEAT KATIE. As a leading proponent of the tech-funk genre we were thrilled to have him on board and had a great debut: DJs happy, venue happy, ravers happy.

And here we are.

We are so excited at the prospect of what our 1st birthday actually means for us in a well sized venue and even more excited at the prospect of our booking. Kye Jules Gibbon AKA Foamo is hot property right now with his remixes and DJ sets gaining him fans at a rate of knots. He has just become a resident at Chew the Fat in London, has a summer residency at Space in Ibiza on the cards and is already touring the world serving bass on a plate, and a fucking massive plate at that.

So come and celebrate the first birthday of what some may consider a genuine Portsmouth success story with a man of the moment and some big local talent on May 30th!
