OUT-BREAK SAT 9th SEPT @ THEME (EQ)

This article is about *OUT-BREAK* @ theme nightclub in Portsmouth (UK), Sat 09 Sep 2006

OUT-BREAK introduce breakbeat & nu skool/hardcore breaks to portsmouth on sat 9th september with our special guest's HOFFMAN & MODEL 101 along with BASSROCK RECORDS.

H0ffman’s passion for electronic music began at an early age, his first influences taken from pioneers such as Kraftwerk and Jean Michael Jarre. A childhood gift of a Commodore 64 introduced him to the analogue sound of the sid sound chip which he fell in love with but, it wasn’t until his teenage years that he started producing music on an Amiga 500 using ProTracker and writing tunes for the demo and piracy scene.

Hoffman put his name firmly on the musical map by becoming one of the founder members of the now legendary internet-based free music label mono211.com back in 1996. During this time H0ffman was also widening his musical perspectives via many a club dancefloor. It wasn’t long before he was in the DJ booth himself, experimenting with various styles before finding his niche with techno and gaining himself a weekly residency as a popular and well respected Freedom Sound DJ, based at Enzo’s nightclub for over five years.

Enzo’s seven year life came to an end and H0ffman found himself looking for a new direction – a fresh sound – so along came Nu Skool Breaks. He swapped minimal repetitive 4x4 beats for fragmented breaks and basslines, with huge success, also helping to promote the scene by hosting a weekly four hour show on leetradio.com with guest DJ’s every week from the south.

M0del101 started DJ'ing in 2002 after seeing people spin at house partys and local clubs. He became intrieged enough to buy a set of his own decks and soon started picking up skills on the turntables, drawing from his own musical background and getting taught some valuablelessons by future DJ partner H0ffman.

You can hear them hosting the Unstable Label show on NuSkoolBreaks.co.uk Radio every Sunday night as well as at regular events such as Influenza, Brace Yourself and Ape, playing alongside DJ's such as Aquasky vs Masterblaster, The Breakfastaz, Control Z, Ben & Lex, Bassrock, ollspin and The AWE Soundsystem. Also Hoffman and M0del101 have recently gone international playing alongside DJ Webstarr and Mikefatmanone in Germany.

Paul BassRock, owner of BassRock Records, hails from the depths of the West country. Paul first started out DJ'ing Electro/Hip Hop back in the days of the mid to late 80's. The sounds of Hardcore in 91/92 soon moved to the forefront of his musical tastes and it is from this era that the sound of "BassRock" takes it influence! Having started the label in 2004 with releases by artists Darkus, Tension, D’State, Transformer Man, Bill Vega and New Decade and supported with remixes by established breaks artists Backdraft and The Autbots earned the label a well earned and respected nomination in the Breakspoll awards for "Best Breakthrough label”. The label is growing all of the time with further strong oldskool influenced and deep down dirty breakbeat productions released by the stable artists. He has also recently worked on collaboration projects with Darkus for the Hardcore Projektz label and his own BassRock Records recent escapades include a guest on Tayo's Kiss100fm radio show and DJ work across the UK and Europe.

entrance only £3/£2 nus 9;30 till 2am.

Come on then you lot, who's up for the next Out-Break on the 9th then?? It's gonna be heavy with the return of BassRock and Hoffman and Model 101. Ive seen these two and they're wicked, proper bassline breakbeats rinsing all the way!!
We're back downstairs for this one and guess what, shock of horrors, it's been 'done up' down there. The sound's been sorted, the furniture's been sorted and I even think the bogs have been cleaned for once hahaha!! We will have our usual backdrops and banners but for anyone that wasnt at the last one, we've sorted a big green laser to illuminate the underground so it's gonna look pretty cool down there.
But for those of you who aren't worried about what the club looks like then just concern yourselves with the fact that the tunes and mc's are going to be rocking. The Out-Break crew always brings you the best in heavy, squelchy, dubbed out, bassline tearout nu-skool breaks in Pompey.
