To Hell and Beyond - Interview with D4rk ahead of Sinistry's Sinners Xmas Party

This article is about Sinistry 3 - Sinners Xmas Party @ Venus Vodka Bar in Portsmouth (UK), Sat 20 Dec 2008

Ahead of Sinistry03: The Sinners Xmas Party, Jester caught up with D4rk to get the lowdown on what the Sinistry faithful can expect come the 20th Dec and most importantly, what he's put on his xmas list!!!

J - Hey dude, looking forward to Christmas?

D - No!! haha. I dunno, call me a miserable old sod, but I'm just the Christmas festive type.
It's a great opportunity to have some great parties, catch up with friends, and to wind down from work for a few days. But you won't catch me out carol singing!

J - What have you asked for from Santa?

D - I asked him for the new Nissan Skyline R35 GTR, but with the current Credit Crunch, I doubt I'll even get a scaled down model!

J - Musically, let's start at the beginning, what got you into dance music?

D - Oddly enough I was never really into music in a big way when I was younger. A disturbed child hood left me more interested in burning and destroying things rather than listening to music!!

However fortunately that all changed when a friend introduced me to the pirate station Kiss FM. I heard music like I'd never heard before, A few raves later and was hooked on Dance for life!!

J - When did you start mixing and what did you mix?

D - I started mixing in 2004, playing a lot of Hard House from Tidy Trax, Nukleus, Fired Up records etc.

I progressed into Hard Trance.. into Trance Generators, Dark by Design, and eventually into the Darker harder sounds that are now the majority of my sets... HardStyle baby!!

That said I've always played Electro, Breaks, Techno and still love my Hard Trance, but nothing represents the same level of energy for me as HardStyle.

J - Who are your influences?

D - On a personal level, a huge amount of influence and inspiration came from my late Father.
His life and his artistic / creative nature inspired me to keep trying on the mixing and to take the music to the next level. He made me realise just how short life can be and that there is so much more to life if you open you mind and put your ambitions in motion.

On a musical level, a lot of my inspiration is coming from the European HardStyle producers and events. Artists such as Donkey Rollers, Evil Activities, Headhunterz, and events such as Sensation Black, Qlimax, Qbase, have all majorly influenced me over the last 12 months.

J - Who are your favourite DJs at the moment?

D - As above ;) Donkey Rollers, Headhunterz, Evil Activities, Tatanka, Showtek, Da Tweekas, to name just a few.

J - What has been your greatest moment as a DJ?

D - Hmmm that's always a tough one. So many different events have their own special place in my mind.

Playing Frantic NYE's last year was problably the biggest crowd, since everyone from the main room piled into mine when the power had been cut. (It wasnt me that pulled the plug out, honest!)

Playing at the Abandoned Zoo for NightShift/Glowball in Ibiza this year and playing HardStyle at Es Paradis, were both truly amazing.

J - If you could play b2b with anyone, who would it be?

D - I have to say I think I've found my perfect B2B partner, my very dear, very old, and very good mate Loki.

We've played our first B2B's over the last couple of months, and particularly Frantic Hard Nation this Sunday just gone. We just seemed to feed off each other and it just got more and more crazy!! So much so I feel like I'm suffering from whiplash for the last 2 days!!

J - How's the production side of things coming along?

D - Things have been hectic the last 6 weeks. 2 Releases on D4rK R3CORDS, D4rK "Sexy Be4st" and DJ Caled's "Come On"

We also finally got the new Label Presence HardStyle off the ground with the release of D4rK "4TH Element" and Double-D's "Do you Wanna Live"

There's one more D4rK release before the end of the year called "Our Legacy".
In the New Year I need to get back in the studio and get cracking on finishing some projects, including a very hard and nasty track called "The Machinist"

J - And finally, what can the Sinistry faithful expect from you at Sinistry03?

D - Ahh well you know, the usual. A bit of bounce, a few uplifting cheesey anthems, finishing off with some hands in the air Trance, haha!

Failing that you'll catch me in an evil nasty mood and I'm gonna take you on a journey to hell and beyond!!

D4rk will be playing 11pm-12pm at Sinistry 03. Entry is £3 and No ID, No Entry!!!
