Leading lights in The Isle of Wight's first crop of Hip Hop talent, Cooly Haste have performed at Bestival '05 & '06 and supported People Under the Stairs, Ugly Duckling & Giant Panda locally. The full band set up is a joy to behold featuring live bass, cuts on the decks, programmed beats and of course the silky tones of Cooly himself. Their UYN debut came at last years massive Wiservice headline show and they have since played in Portsmouth at The Exposure, Bring The Noise, The Thursday Thing and performed live on Express FM. Cooly Haste have also been bothering the US hip-hop community, winning in straight sets to become a coveted Myspace Battle Rap Champion and ruffling more than a few feathers. A combination of pure funk inspired hip-hop and observational lyrics guide the team without attitude, merely a desire to make the place rock. JON WALBRIN

Winner of the Wedgewood Rooms Band 06, Mr. Walbrin straddles the line between digital and analogue in a truly interesting way. It's just him. And a guitar. And a sampler pedal. Jon really dislikes the sound of children singing so this part of his music is played down. His own description of his sound is "drinking distilled eye-juice then gargling Smiths songs." My description would include references to Thom Yorke stretching to a Warp state of mind. Rather than flooding the Portsmouth scene since his enviable win at the Band 06 (no mean feat too if you've seen the state of the judges), promoters appear to have struggled to find a place on their bills for Jon. Far from being down to a lack of talent or vision on Jon's part, UYN would argue that this criticism could be levelled at the promoters themselves. Luckily we have enough balls to put our money where our mouth is and you'll be able to check out Jon's soundscapes in our very special room at Downtown.

UDY & LENSKI

Udy & Lenski's partnership began many years ago when a little ginger man started hanging about around a Harry Potter lookalike's house for no good reason. When asked to leave he refused and insisted that Potter attended his hip and happening night at the Honest Politician. Hip and happening transpired to be dark, scary and with a confused audience of about 10 end of weekend losers. Lenski was soon to become a founding member of Under Your Nose and in the clique of the best producers we have to offer. Whether it's the cranky tech-electronica of his Fax Head album, the smooth techno Huh EP or the electonica hip-hop sounds of his new outfit Model Of Society, you can be assured that quality control is top of Lenski's agenda. Udy is honcho at Under Your Nose and a slightly more unruly force, drawing personal energy from only the largest of electro basslines and bordering on annoying twinkling noises. The idea is that these forces will combine to create a dual laptop set of techno inspired breaks and house with smattering of electro and hip-hop and some other words. The reality is all of the above but probably in a different order.
