This article is about Tidy Weekender 15 - NOW THATS WHAT I CALL A WEEKENDER! @ Pontins in Prestatyn (UK), Fri 03 Oct 2008
Hi Scott! Firstly, tell us about yourself and what you do when you‘re not in the DJ booth?
Hi! I’m Scott Fo Shaw and I’m currently a full time Hard House DJ slash Producer. When I’m not actually in the DJ booth I can usually be found by the bar trying to attract sexual partners!
When you were younger your musical taste was much different. How has it changed and why?
When I first started listening to music in 1953, I was very much into George Formby. I used to love a good sing-along to ‘When I’m Cleaning Windows’! Nowadays I’m very much into the whole Death Whalesong scene; just gotta love those gothic whales!
Who do you see as your musical influence and why?
My main musical influences have got to be whale song, this is mainly because I find that the ladies can’t resist a good piece of whale song. At this point after I’ve dropped a massive whale song tune I usually end up with a whole pile of underwear being thrown at me. Which, quite frankly can be a nuisance!
When you’re not DJ’ing (or working), you‘re…?
Playing with my pork sword
You’ve played at a number of events including Sundissential, Slinky, Frantic, Storm and you’ve recently played in Turkmenistan! How did you feel and what did clubbers get to see when you were out there?
I think the main thing that clubbers saw, was my amazing Mankini/Snorkel combo! I tell you now it is one of the sexist sights you’ll ever see! The clubbers there adored my set. I had to change my style a little bit as the crowd was very different from the UK crowd, so I had to play a lot of panpipes classics in with the occasional Celtic folk song for good measure!
You hold residencies at both V14GRA (Hard House night in Leeds) and Storm which is a hard house event based in Coalville and has won the award for ‘Best Large Club‘ at the Hard Dance Awards 2 years in a row. What do you enjoy most about playing at Storm?
I get to see Garbo’s hot ass every month!
You’ve also had many tracks signed to labels such as Tidy, Toolbox, Flashpoint and you’ve done remixes for labels such as Awsum and Deprivation just to name a few. What can everyone expect from your future releases?
I’ve just been working on the sound of the future and it’s definitely orange and it also has Morrison’s staff announcements as the main vocal hooks. I tell you now its going to be HUGE!!!
If you could be anything other than a DJ what would you be?
I’d be a chicken sexer. It mainly entails sorting through baby chickens and seeing if they are male or female and then segregating them.
Most enjoyable set and why?
We have a nice dinner set at home. The plates are mainly white but they have a nice pattern around the edges
What about your clubbing days? When and where did they start?
In 1856 at the Scunthorpe Gentleman’s Club. We used to swap a good old story and smoke a cigar! Those were the days! I especially miss my flat cap and tweed jacket!
Where do you hope to be in 5 years time in relation to DJ’ing?
I hope to be age 23 and a half
Describe your most embarrassing moment in the clubbing scene?
I was once checking out some mighty fine ladies on the other side of the dance floor and I walked over in my ‘cool guy’ mode and as I got close that those fine ladies were actually a poster on the wall!
What are your top favourite tunes of the moment?
1. Scott Fo Shaw - Show Me Love (Tidy) 2. The Resonates - A Higher Love (CDR) 3. Scott Fo Shaw feat. Stace - That Summer Tune (Tidy) 4. Gusto - Disco’s Revenge (Hypasonic Remix) (AATW) 5.
