Goodgreef Meets John O'Callaghan

This article is about Goodgreef NW Preston @ 53degrees in Preston (UK), Sat 31 Mar 2007

1. This is the first time you’ll be playing at Goodgreef NW
Preston, what are you most looking forward to about it?
All of the Good Greef events are always brilliant and I know the crowd will totally be up for it, so I’m looking forward to having a top night with a great crowd!

2. What can the crowd expect from your performance?
Well I’ve just recently finished a few new productions and remixes that I haven’t got to play out yet, so they can expect to hear some boshing new tunes that I think will really tear up the floor. I can’t wait to play them.

3. If you could only have 3 tunes on your iPod what would they be and why?
Paul van Dyk – For An Angel, BT – Flaming June and... The Verve – Lucky Man. The first two because they have everything that I love about dance music; energy, melody and impact. Then ‘Lucky Man’ because that reminds me of when I was a teenager and life was a lot easier then!

4. “Exactly was a massive success, how does it feel to when your own productions do so well?
It feel’s fantastic because I put a lot of work into my productions, weeks if not months. So to see them get continued success is really a great feeling. I still get asked for ‘Exactly’ almost every gig and I’m really proud that it’s still doing so well.

5. Everyone wants to be a DJ now, what tips have you got for people?
It takes a long time to get noticed these days so the only way to break through is to have something that other people don’t. This can be anything from spectacular DJ skills, amazing production talent or something else at all. The bottom line is keep doing what you love and if you are good enough you will get what you deserve.

6. If you weren’t a DJ what do you see yourself doing now?
I would probably be working some office job or something in computer related. I dread the thought of getting up every morning at 7am so I’m glad I have avoided that… so far! I’m also big into cooking so I might have ended up a chef or something. Gordon Ramsey is a legend!

7. What is your current ring tone?
The telephone ring tone from the series ‘24’ – love it!

8. If you could play with any DJ who would it be and why?
Paul van Dyk. He has proven to be possibly the best trance artist of all time over the years, in my opinion. And as a DJ he is just as good.

9. If you had to sum up your style in one word, what would that word be? Electronic-energy!

10. What can we expect from John O’Callaghan in 2007?
My debut artist album is out now through Discover Records. This is a massive milestone for me as it showcases all of my productions and styles. CD1 is all of my most known tracks along with a lot of new material. Then Cd2 is the bonus tracks with remixes - unmixed so it’s good for DJs. There are some experimental tracks on there but also plenty of my own style. Overall I’m really happy with how it came out and anybody who likes trance might enjoy listening to it. Also, I have just finished my first remix for Paul van Dyk’s ‘VANDIT’ label. The track is called ‘Thomas Bronzwaer – Constellation’ and the original is being hammered by Halliwell & co. so I’m hoping that my remix is well received. Discover 27a & 27b is in shops soon – “Split Decision” incl. Reaves & Ahorn mix (caned by PVD), “Space & Time/Sunday 1am” (played be John Askew, Simon Patterson & more…). ‘Lost World – A Life Elsewhere’ incl. Martin Roth remix out now on Armada music (played by Armin, PvD). Forthcoming more album sampler’s on Discover/Discover Dark.
