Folks,

Just been on a little tour of Sakura and I can honestly say that the place is gonna be effing gorgeous !!! The manager seemed eager to point out that the music policy would be slightly commercial at times but certainly credible which was reassuring, by that I mean that it's not going to be the cheesetastic cheesefest that some are intimating.

I was walking round trying to imagine what each bit looked like when it was the Fez and it was really quite difficult, all very very plush and the illuminated dance floor is gonna be very 70's discomungus.

Of course my main reason to go was to check out the VIP room which will be my domain every Friday from next week and to say I'm pretty excited about it is a little bit of an understatement !!!

From what I can gather the crack with the VIP room will be that you book a table in advance for about £45/£50 (5/6 people per table I think) which obviously gets you VIP access with your own table, a bottle of Moet Champers and table service throughout the night of course accompanied by the delectable sounds of yours truly :-)

So essentially you are paying for a bottle bubbly between your group. They will also be selling bottles of spirits which you share between your group which will roughly translate to about £3.50 a drink so all in all pretty good value I reckon. Of course they have a normal bar in the VIP too so you don't have to go the bottle route.

So anyway I'm starting next Friday when Joey Negro is in the main room then the following Friday I think it's Hed Kandi again as they have a monthly residency.

Anyway thats about it.

Good luck with m8, it all sounds quite sumptuous, will it compete with Mango or not benski ?;~)

You sure it wasn't just a rabid Topshop shopper?

I think the two places have a distinctly different personality and I don't think that either should worry about competing with one another. Easy for me to say I know but I firmly believe there are more than enough people in Reading for two succesful trendy nightclub.

If you have Hed Kandi on in one venue and something like Voodoo on in another then everybodies a winner.

With acts like Pendulum & Housexy playing at Dogma and Fierce Angel at Revolutiuon too then surely it's all good and will encourage more people from outside Reading to venture to the town for a party.

I would expect that too, just have to hope the respective club owners/managers plan their nights so they aren't all too similar on the same days.

in my own opinion, theres too many house nights all sounding in the same funky/soul/electro genre.
need some techno, tribal and chunky beats :(

Oh hell yeah we do! But who is going to organise one? And who will give them the opportunity?

The only places I can think of would be Plug and Play or perhaps the Afterdark Club. I think the others are too busy with the nights they have to contemplate dropping one for something that may not succeed.

I'm not saying for one second that a night like that wouldn't succeed by the way.

How about the bar near the station, Bambu or something? Looks like a public toilet.

Well then the Afterdark Club would be perfect - the Checkpoint Charlie nights there are pretty special and well suited to the venue.
