I was going to start with a long introductory blurb about what a good summer it’s been, and how we’ve had loads of good events at UG, but I’ve got so much to say about this rather tasty line-up that I’ve decided it’s best to get straight down to the nitty gritty, and tell you all about the treats in store on this rather hefty night.

James Lavelle for starters, has quite a pedigree, having been a key figure at many defining moments of British dance music. He first shot to prominence as the founder of the seminal moWax record label, which introduced the world to DJ Shadow (amongst many other great artists) and was a cornerstone of the scene we’re probably still not allowed to call trip-hop. From there he leapt into a more dancefloor targeted direction, collaborating with DJ Shadow and a host of other star artists (Thom Yorke, Beastie Boys, Richard Ashcroft, BadlyDrawnBoy & more) on the UNKLE project, a seminal collision of house, hip-hop, rock and much more besides. His new found dedication to the dancefloor saw him selected as one of the first big name residents for Fabric nightclub, and record some fabulous mix albums (his addition to the Global Underground series is very highly regarded). Basically, he’s a top dog round these here parts, he has rocked and shocked Urban Gorilla on every one of his visits so far, and you don’t want to be missing this one.

Accompanying him in room one, and we are very proud to welcome for the first time an artist that we have long coveted at Urban Gorilla, France’s electro-tinged techno genius Agoria. Ever since he first blasted onto the scene with the amazing “La Onzieme Marche” he’s been amusing us and amazing us with fantastic productions (“Les Beaux Jours”, the awesome “Blossom” album and the impending “The Green Armchair”). On top of that last year he threw out the amazing “Cute and Cult” mix album which brought the finest techno tracks of the time together with surprises from Radiohead and Iggy Pop amongst others, and was generally awesome. In 2004 he was voted the World’s Best DJ by the readers of Italy’s premiere electronic music magazine Trax, apparently because the “attention to emotion and detail in his sets are staggering”. And those Italians know how to dance. So we’re in for a treat, basically. Don’t miss out.

In Room 2 we’ve got something of a special treat of our own, as we bring you a selection of home grown Sheffield electronic artists which we think are going to make big waves in the very near future. Grandadbob, to be fair, have already caused a bit of a storm – having been snapped up by Fatboy Slim no less for his Southern Fried record label (for whom they are about to release their rather storming second artist album “Garden of Happiness”). They’ve also been called up by Badly Drawn Boy (who’s clearly fallen for their quirky electropop charms) to support him on his latest tour. And Brian Blessed’s on their album, for crying out loud! So we’re very happy to have dragged them away from the big things happening to them right now, to treat us to a special oddball DJ set

We discovered Feedle playing in a little venue in Sheffield a few years ago, and were quickly excited by what we thought was quite possibly the most exciting new electronica artist in the city. Then we forgot about him. But recently we stumbled upon his new material (through the temperamental wonders of Myspace) which was exciting and beautiful, and somewhat reminiscent of recent UG highlight Nathan Fake, and decided he’d be the perfect addition to our eclectic, electronic second room. Part of the micro-scene of Sheffield artists that has also thrown up the awesome 65DaysOfStatic and the mindboggling Media Lounge, we think he might be set for big things, and are excited to bring him to you first, with a live set accompanied by tailor made visuals.

Support in Room 1 comes from Adam Connal, who in spite of being a stalwart of the new UG residents team and tearing up Fez and DQ many times, will be making his big room debut, whilst the beats in room 2 will be supplied by Tuesday Club resident Stoaty, who went down such a storm at our Bank Holiday special
