BIG THANKS FROM YOUR 5TH ANNUAL HDA #1DJ

Wow, now that has been a mental year and a big thank you to everyone who voted for me, your continued support is eternally appreciated. And it’s all down to you, every single fuckin’ one of you! Even the people that didn’t vote for me but come out and stomp hard and heavy every weekend, you all contribute to making this scene an honour for me to be part of and I’m proud to call Hard Dance my home.

At 9am today, Monday morning, once all the partying and celebrations had died down for a while, I managed to get a couple of hours to myself and reflect on what has to be the best year of my life so far, both personally and ‘work’, if you can call it that!
I’m on cloud 9 now I've be voted for by the global Hard Dance community as the “BEST DJ OF 2008”. “Biggest Party Animal” award also took some heavy weekend raving and plenty of body abuse so I reckon I’m allowed to be proud of that one too.
Essentially though I’m over the moon for all my fans and friends, all the real people that have put faith and belief in me over the years, I’d like to give this award a nod in their direction. Without them I really would never have got this far and nor would I want to.

Since last year’s Hard Dance Awards, there have been so many highlights that give me the inspiration and the drive to work as hard as I do whilst enjoying as much as I can. Sometimes it’s not always fun, there are plenty of occasions when my mind can’t function anymore because of the stress and pressure of trying fit everything in to the best of my ability.(Most of those times involve my manager funnily enough, cheers Baz!).

But then all I have to do is think of those legendary moments from this year like turning TW12 into Kiddfields or looking out at the hills of Durham as Kiddstock hits eruption point. Other highlights include the 10 festivals I played this year, spinning on the stage with Luna and Proteus in a huge motorway tunnel in Hamburg, flying out to Ibiza on my birthday to rock Es Paradis and the countless tours I’ve done to Australia, Canada, Finland, Holland and Ireland. This is the stuff that dreams are made of and as proud as I am, I couldn’t have had any of these opportunities without the support of my loyal fans, my fellow DJ’s and producers, my management and most of all my team at AKHQ.

The event itself was a huge success. Winning 2 gongs and coming runner up in another 3 categories is a huge achievement considering I’ve never won anything before in my life. The Goodgreef and Trackitdown.net team put on an excellent show and ceremony and I thought most of the presenters were excellent ( Special mention to Ed, Nolan, Tristan, Baz and Beorn for all their hard work. Also a big shout to Rodi, Gaz and BK for being amongst some well deserved winners on the night. Finally I need to thank the crowd who made the atmosphere electric throughout the whole shenanigans.

A final note: Hard Dance has had a rough few years in some respects; plenty of over hyped corporate industry bod’s who have no passion or interest in the scene or its music had the luxury of dominating and taking charge for a while. But the talented players and the passionate people out there have stuck with it solidly to ensure that hard dance is a strictly underground scene and no amount of commercialism or money hungry rip off merchants can touch what we have built and sustained. The awards are a great reflection of what we have going on in our scene and getting nominated, short listed and presented with awards is a dream come true. Despite all this it’s important to acknowledge it isn’t the be all and end all and to remember that after all, it’s just a bit of fun. The people rocking on the floor and the tunes rocking out of the speakers are what matters. I love it that Hardstyle and European Hard Trance has made such a big impact on our scene and that’s something I’ve fully contributed to and pushed for many years. Putting new styles like Schranz and Tech Trance into the mix means I’m enjoying my music more than ever now, both playing and producing it. That means more to me than anything else and long may it continue. As long as I’m happy with the music and the clubbers enjoy what I do then I’m confident enough to carry on smashing it up on any stage I can!! The gifted and most talented artists in our scene like Kutski, Donors and Mark EG don’t need to win awards and these guys contribute just as much to our scene as I do….so I guess what I’m trying to say is this isn’t just about me being crowned as “Best DJ”, it’s about the underground being alive and kicking and the real people in our scene taking control again!!
