Saturday August 5th @ The Room
MIKE MONDAY (Playtime)
Adam Connal
Alan Chapman

Enthusiastic reminiscences on last week’s (doubtless amazing) UG be damned, I’m getting this written nice and early so I can get off on holiday whilst the weather is nice. So let’s get straight down to business, and have a look at what’s lined up at UG on August 5th. And blow me if it isn’t something downright amazing.

Mike Monday is quite possibly the hottest thing in British house music at the moment. After long being tipped as the next big thing, last year his profile exploded, with a string of killer productions destroying dancefloors across the land, and his Playtime night becoming one of THE essential clubbing destinations in the south of England.

So, a word or two more about his productions. They’re stonking. Cannily named (almost ‘exactly what it says on the tin’) tunes such as the anthemic “What Day Is It?”, “Belter” and…erm… “Boondoggle”, have been causing maximum destruction on the dancefloor of UG and many more of the countries finest clubs, after lodging themselves firmly in the boxes of every discerning DJ. Somehow, they manage to be simultaneously stripped down and jacking and fully flavoured and in your face. We don’t know how he does it. But it’s dead good.

And then there’s his residency at what’s fast becoming the second (ahem) best club in the country. Mike’s sets at Playtime have been a massive part in the club’s success. Drawing heavily on his roots in the funk (he once shared a live band with Andy Cato from Groove Armada) and acid house scenes, he fearlessly mixes up styles in service of the dancefloor, always keeping the groove, and hooking deep into the old-school spirit.

So, with more than able support on hand from the terrible twosome of Alan Chapman and Adam Connal (who sometimes when they go back to back combine Power Rangers-style into the fearsome dancefloor destroying beast known as Aslan Conman) the looks set to be a quite spectacular night of twisted groovy goodness. Get your jack on, and we’ll see you on the floor.
