Rock Against Racism - This Saturday 7th June

On Saturday 7th June Shrewsbury’s Square will be the focus for the third annual Rock Against Racism event, highlighting the Town’s growing cultural diversity and the need to challenge racism in all it forms.

The Cultural Diversity Day in the Square is a chance to share in different food, music, history and art of some of the cultures that contribute to the multi-ethic country that we live in.

In the evening there will be a major Rock Against Racism gig at the Butter market, Shrewsbury, with an eclectic range of bands known locally, nationally and internationally. Bands on the bill are: ska/punk outfit Fight the Bear, Asian blues band Aziz, live drum & base from Subsource and weighty funk rock courtesy of headliners The Heavy.

The event is organised by the local partnership SAAR (Shrewsbury Action Against Racism). SABC officer and Chair of SAAR Steve Cunningham said ‘This event is an opportunity for the people of Shrewsbury to send the clear and undiluted message the Shrewsbury is Town that welcomes all, but does not tolerate racism on any level.’ Steve added ‘This will be the best the Rock Against Racism so far with such a exciting line up planned for both the Square and Butter market, I encourage everyone to come along and support the events’

During the day - 12.00pm to 4.30 pm
The Cultural Diversity Day in the Square will be open by nationally renown performance poet Lemn Sissay followed by music, dance and other performances, There will also be stalls providing information and activities related to the event. The event will be closed by the local rockers Steel Monkey.

During the evening - 7.30 pm to 2am

come on then who's up for this . what a good way to wake up after innovation than to come to the square and enjoy the acts then on to the butters for the rest of the action , aziz is (i think )one of the best acts of last year at the butters .. for a mingy fiver 7.30 till 2 ...come on

i don't get to see aziz on his last visit so would like to catch him this time. I've seen subsource plenty of times and they are amazing! The best live breaks/dnb act i ever seen - wicked music and their stage presence is awesome! Shame i'm fekin wokrin tho (and it's not a traffic night!)
