Quartz fucked my washing machine...
Fucking awesome night.

it's four in the afternoon and i'm still feeling the efffects of quartz on my body and soul.

Great decor, great music, Ash on live percussion is fantastic.. going to have to look at getting him at 2 kilos... right up my street.

But i've got a bit of a rant... the trophy twins didnt show again (think they'd phoned at 10.30 to cancel...not much time to get another name in!), i'm not angry at quartz, i'm wound up about them not showing after re scheduleing for this date. Local ran nights like this can soon go to the wire if they get a rep for acts not turning up. There may have been a genuine reason for the lads not making it so i wont speculate but it's a bit shit after having half their money up front. Someone from quartz can probably explain why they didnt come.

However, I'm glad they didn't come. Bear with me on this. Alot of people there were there mainly to see the the trophy twins but instead recieved and enjoyed quality sets from all the quartz lads. People were dancing and smiling and it didnt matter we didn't have a name in the house. But how many of those would have been there without a name? I'm guilty of it.. i've been to a few saturday sessions when it's been quiet and no real atmosphere, as you have to support other local nights, the music was always spot on but no where near as busy as the platinum nights. I went initially last night to see the trophy twins but instead danced through to across the board house by some lads who played with a smile on their faces for the buzz. People of shrewsbury need to get out there and see there's more to life than big name DJ's!!

All in all Quartz put on a quality night and i shall make an effort to go to more of their stuff regardless of who's on.

Hey Matt, of all the people even vaguely associated with Quartz I think I was the only one who didn't speak to you last night.
Here's what happened with the Trophy Twins, both last month and this month:

Last month we had them booked, their agent then double-booked them into a venue in London. The Trophy Twins told their agent they'd rather play the London gig and cancelled us. This was a week or two before we'd arranged to exchange contracts and pay the deposit, so we were stuffed really. Of course the flyers were already printed and distributed by then, so we had to do some work to let people know the situation, as it's our policy to operate with honesty and integrity.

Last week their agent informed us that Adam had given up club DJ'ing and that The Trophy Twins are now just Mark (except when they're on Radio 1 strangely)!!! We were told that their was no discounted fee for this as we were still getting The Trophy Twins (i.e Mark) and to take or leave it. Not wanting to let our punters down, we opted to take it; so we still had Mark of The Trophy Twins DJ'ing for us. Deposits were already paid and contracts had been exchanged, the deal was done.

Yesterday afternoon the agent tried to change the set times to an earlier time, we said, "no, we're paying what we were going to pay for 2 twins for just 1 and the set time was arranged weeks ago and is a standard set time for headline DJs and is part of the contract."
Last night, minutes before we arrived at the club, PJ got a text from Mark saying that he'd had to take his sister into hospital as her husband was away in Ireland. He was then going to have to drop her kids off at their Grandparents, so there was a chance he might not make it. We got straight back to him and he said that he'd do his best but would probably be running a little bit late. At 10:40pm we got a text saying he wouldn't be coming, sorry and he would make it up to us (!).
At that point we only had a few people in, so we took the decision to drop the door price and let as many people know the situation so they could make their own decision.
Without exception, everyone we spoke to said stuff along the lines of, "are you guys playing? is Ash on percussion & trumpet? That's fine then." And as you quite rightly point out Matt, it was an excellent night, full of friendly, funky people dancing their asses off.

Quite by chance we found out today that Mark was also supposed to be playing somewhere in his native Leeds last night (hence why the agent wanted to move set times), but didn't show. So his reason for not showing up at Quartz did seem genuine.
Incidentally, looking through the contracts today, they are all weighted in favour of the artist. If we as promoters have to cancel, postpone or whatever, then basically we have to pay a minimum of 50% of the fee, the agent's fee plus any out of pocket expenses. If, however, the artist cancels, we get our deposit back - whoopee f*ckin' do! When you consider that it's the promoter who takes all of the financial risk in the first place; and breaking even on a night is a rarity. I guess that poses the question, "why the f*ck do we do this then?"
Well, the answer is in your post Matt, that we "...played with a smile on their faces for the buzz."
Yup, we love doing it. I loved f*cking yours and everyone elses washing machine; and it seemed everyone loved having their washing machine f*cked too!
;-D

Awite Deano!! Amy and i totally enjoyed ourselves....quality night, really good music and whats more...i realised that i DO like this music !! totally agree with the comments above-well said, the atmosphere was very friendly too, lots of smiling faces, i am usually more of a breaks and DnB gal....but i loved the deep and funky tunes inparticular. A lot of friends who usually dont go for all that stuff came too and said the same...what a refreshing change!!

well said guys!!!! It was an awesome night, music was good, ash was fantastic and the crowd was brilliant, but then again they always are at quartz - just people who love house music and certainly know how to party! my only complaint was the night wasn't long enough, but as usuall chappers sorted us out! he is a legend! (hope your having a good time out in ibiza, i'm sure you are)

Can't wait for the next one!

I'd like to believe that its true but it all sound very suspicious! but I'm not going to slag him off yet because as far as i know they don't have a reputation for doing this! but it puts the quartz lads in a bad predicament, they have worked really hard to build up there night and the twins could had made a big dint in there reputation! once is understandable but twice is just very bad luck thankfully people like matt & charl didn't let it ruin there nite and partied hard til the early hours!
