Music : All Music

This is a daytime event (e.g. starts late morning or early afternoon - see below for times).

Saturday 21st June sees the return of Access Festival to Mayflower Park and the celebration of its 5th year. Once again the free music festival will offer crowds 5 stages of live music and DJs with across the board appeal. Access Festival also continues to support local homelessness charity, the Society of St James.

Access Festival began, in its first year as a relatively small event in Palmerston Park’s Bandstand. It has grown in leaps and bounds each year. 2008 will be the 5th Access Festival and organisers expect a turnout of around 7000 people at Mayflower Park. To celebrate this anniversary Access Festival aims to raise more funds than ever for the city’s homeless community; although they maintain their commitment to being a free festival they are asking all those who can afford it to make a donation of £2 on the gate.

Director of Fundraising at the Society of St James, Diane Platt said: We are incredibly lucky to have the support of an organisation like Access Festival. For the people coming along to the festival £2 will be less than the cost of a pint of beer and yet their contribution will make a huge difference in supporting the work we do every single day with homeless an vulnerable people.

Access Festival fundraising events have been taking place all over the city since the beginning of the year and will continue right up until days before the festival so please look out for the fundraising events and help to make the festival happen.

This year’s festival has something to offer everyone:

· The Main Stage with a huge range of music on offer from local bands
· The Hobbit Tent with a range of Acoustic, Folk and alternative bands and solo artists
· The Dance Tent featuring some of the best DJs the south has to offer
· The Soul Cellar Tent offering something a little different with the likes of Latin, Jazz, Funk and urban music
· The Arts Tent offering solo artists, jam sessions and comedy courtesy of Short Circuit all in an art gallery environment.

· The Beer tent hosted by the Soul Cellar
· Catering units offering a range of yummy festival fare
