The Quantic Soul Orchestra whip up a storm of funk
The best booking in Southampton in ages" The Nut (Vfunk)

Nocturnal is inspired by nights such as Brighton's Phonic: Hoop or Manchester's Electric Chair. Nights where you don’t hear breaks all night long or hip hop or house or drum and bass or...well you get the point. There's no reason why you cant connect the funk in all its forms - something you'd have realised if you caught one of our dj sets in and around Southampton over the past couple of years.

2004 and 2005 had already seen two storming Nocturnal parties at the Sobar with special guests the The Unabombers (November) and Jazzanova (February) but the QSO was the biggest and boldest thing we'd done by a mile...

QSO is the brainchild of producer Will Holland, who as Quantic liked to mix jazz and breakbeat samples, but was also looking for a live output for his talents. He formed QSO with the intention of putting something back to the genre of funk and soul from which he and so many others have plundered their samples. Their debut album ‘Stampede’ contained mostly original material but it’s in a live setting that QSO really work their magic.

From the hairpin soul corners of ‘Raw Ingredients’ to the hip-wiggling Afro-beats of ‘Severn Rocks’ they rocked the dance floor of the Nexus with bouncing rhythms and shark-baiting hooks.

But the real star of the show was vocalist Alice Russell. Understatement just doesn’t come into it as she blasted out superb renditions of ‘Pushin On’ and their excellent cover version of 4 Hero’s ‘Hold It Down’.

"amazing night, best one i've had in southampton for a long time. great music, crowd and atmosphere. lovely:)"

Nocturnal well and truly dropped the funk like Del Boy's old junk, from the mighty QSO to a killer warm up set from KRL and human beatbox Mr "10 VIP passes" Owski, which had to be seen to be believed.

Nocturnal touch down again on Saturday June 18th at the Sobar with a very special sound system from one of the UK's best clubs as we celebrate the start of our monthly parties.....

Lets get electrified...

QSO rule and the new album will hopefully propel them further into the anuls of the great bands. i wish I could have been there but I only heard about the night the day before!

Tell me though, have you seen them live before? They have a new band as Will, Russ and Alice (mmmmmm, lovely Alice...) are the only three remaining originals after a band (cough) re-shuffle. I was wondering if the new band compare as I know their drummer before was a great hitter.

Well done on the quality bookings, Jazzanova rule too =)
