Music : Club Classics, Funky House, Soulful House, Deep House, US House, Hip Hop, Reggae, Funk, Disco, Soul and Rare Groove
This is a daytime event (e.g. starts late morning or early afternoon - see below for times).
To celebrate our 2nd birthday Norman Jay MBE will be bringing his legendary Good Times sound system - the highlight of the Notting Hill Carnival - down to Southampton for the first time. It promises to be the best Sobar session yet!
With a career spanning over 30 years, Norman has pretty much seen and done it all - warehouse parties, Kiss FM, Talkin Loud, the Southport Weekender, the world's biggest clubs and of course his Good Times albums and carnival sets. Expect a little bit of everything in Norman's set - rare groove, hip hop, soul, funk, disco and house! All in all, the perfect way to spend a summer afternoon...
It's the usual Sobar malarky - starting at 2pm, we party outside in the amazing garden til 8pm, then move indoors to carry on til late. Also appearing will be Jimmy Irvine, who as a Soul Heaven resident has regularly appeared alongside the likes of Masters at Work and many other top US jocks. Plus your Emotive residents Ashley Wilson, Steve Luke and Neil Maclean, bringing you the best in soulful and classic house.
Norman Jay will be playing outside from 5pm to 7pm, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. Entry is £8, £1 of which will be donated to breast cancer research. SoBar is located at 98-102 Bevois Valley Rd, Southampton.
To celebrate the occasion we will also be putting together an Emotive Classics CD - the first 100 people to show their membership card as they enter will receive them. If you're not already a member you can join for free on our website and receive this limited edition birthday treat!
