Audio Chic catches up with Dario Burelli from Lost Souls ahead of November's party...
Dario, what have you been working on lately, re. production, gigs etc?
It's been a busy year for juggling DJing, Promoting and production as well as coping with a full time job. For the last 2 years, I've held a regular show on Passion FM and unknown FM, but recently decided to stop so that I can use that time in the studio instead. A recent project I've been working is called "Masks of Mayhem" which consists of myself and fellow Lost Souls promoter, Antony Difranceso. A track called "Rebel Planet" is near completion and just needs mastering, hopefully it will be ready for the Audio Chic party. In the next 6 months, production will be my main focus, and you can expect a few eps from myself and the LS boys, so watch this space!
What can the crowd at Audio Chic expect from you at November's party?
If I'm perfectly honest I was shocked that a crowd existed outside of London, that had a taste for underground techno. When I first played for the Tickled Pink party back in August, I had planned to play a more pumping electro house set, however when stepping into the Bora Bora themed arena, I could see that this crowd did like very warped electronic music so my track selection was no different to what I would play at warehouse parties or afterparties. The crowd knew the music, and appreciated the tracks I played. This time for Audio Chic I will provide a set that will start Minimal Techno based, and progress to more harder, darker sounds. I'm a DJ who likes to provide something different and will hear a lot of new material from across the globe. I keep it underground so anyone requesting floor fillers, beware I won't play them!
Lost Souls have been tearing it up in London lately, tell us a bit more about it and what you guys have lined up in the near future?
The last year has taken off for Lost Souls, mainly because we got a team that share an obession for the same music. Our crowd has evolved from the hardcore side of party go-er, raving from Thursday to Monday to a more eclectic crowd. Our last event at the Key really showed that. For the next year, we'll continue to focus on our bread and butter which is London, but also try and make some appearances in clubs who won’t normally find us. On the horizon, is hosting the boutique at Sankeys's Manchester for Tribal Sessions early next year, which we are in the process of confirming. Also we are in talks with Firefly, who run monthly party at Stealth Nottingham. Another great club that would really help establish our brand in unknown territory. Summer 08 would be great to hold a party in the white Isle but we don't wanna get ahead of ourselves and we've still got a lot of work to do. Promoting is a volatile game at the moment, so we gotta make sure we don't get caught up in the hype and take on anything beyond our control.
Lastly, what plans have you got for the near future regarding dj'ing/gigs?
We’ll nothing major till March next year where I’ll be playing out a club in the North east of Italy called Babalou, my family live round that region of Italy and the club is really special as it has an outdoor terrace with really goes off Thursday to Monday. With the Cross/Key and Canvas going in the next few months, the majority of my gigs will likely to be in warehouses, due to the lack of potential clubs to play my style of music. Unfortunately the likes of Pacha, still aint really for Techno and probably never will be.
