GLOBAL GATHERING 2007 – ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER SELL OUT!

GLOBAL GATHERING 2007 – ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER SELL OUT!
Friday 27th & Saturday 28th July, Long Marston Airfield

Global Gathering was a rip-roaring success, attracting greater numbers than ever before. A record-breaking 55,000 people congregated at the Long Marston Airfield, despite the weather, proving the British spirit can’t be dampened by rain and mud! The atmosphere across the site was utterly electric and better than ever. Ticket holders let their hair down en masse, determined to enjoy themselves after weeks of bad weather.

Friday night saw Maxi Jazz, the front man of Faithless fly in by helicopter just fifteen minutes before running onto the main stage for an impressive live performance. Saturday’s headliners Basement Jaxx brought the spirit of Brixton to Stratford-on-Avon for a show throbbing with urban beats and powerful diva’s. Calvin Harris took to the stage of the Modular Arena with his band after hosting his very own barbecue joined by Sister Bliss, Faithless and other A-list guests!

150 of the most legendary DJs on the planet delivered the sets of their lifetimes in each of the sixteen arenas, sending crowds wild and giving ticket holders dance memories to cherish for a lifetime. It is nigh on impossible to cite stand out performances, when every arena was full to capacity. The Godskitchen arena was one of the biggest in Europe holding 15,000 people and was full from start to finish.

The sheer quality and range of music on site, from euphoric trance to drum & bass ensured there was something for everyone, but it was the extra touches and production that took the event stratospheric. The Red Arrows delivered a heart-stopping show at 6pm on the Saturday night whilst David Guetta was on the main stage, drawing a heart in the air before jetting off! Global Gathering saw the debut appearance of Sputnik’s spherical dome on to which projections were screened throughout the weekend.

Production-wise, the Angel Music Group team had to pull out all of the stops to ensure that the event happened. A torrential downpour on the Thursday afternoon before the event opened meant the entire set up was behind schedule and areas of the ground were left water logged. Some of the terraces did not go live until Saturday after the sun had dried out the site and certain areas of the campsite and car parking were re-organised to ensure the safety of all ticket holders. Even Radio 1 suffered temporary technical problems. Pete Tong’s Essential Show was delayed for a few minutes on the Friday whilst an excitable Sara Cox took the helm before Pete returned with Carl Cox.

James Algate, the festival organiser says,
“The atmosphere on site was simply the best yet which shows what an incredible crowd of loyal supporters we have, they would not let the bad weather ruin their enjoyment. The sheer weight of water on site hampered our set-up and members of our production crew didn’t sleep for three nights to ensure the festivals success. It was all worth it because of the phenomenal response we got from guests and DJs alike. A heart-felt thanks goes out to everyone who helped make the event happen. We had unbelievable support from all of the local residents and authorities who all pulled together to ensure a safe and thoroughly enjoyable event”

This year was only my second year at GG, and I'm fairly new to the whole raving scene, but, correct me if I'm wrong.......isn't Global a festival?? What happened to the festival spirit peeps??
I haven't looked into it, but I don't know of many people complaining about Glastonbury! ( I hear the toilets there had piles of doo doo so high you couldnt actually sit down - LoL!)

Your either a festival going kinda person or your not....if your not, just don't go - silly!!

I remembr seeing one guy quite early on on Saturday morning covered from head to toe in mud, his face and all, and I saw him again late Saturday night still covered in dry, crusty mud - quality!!

I went to GG to see my fav DJ's, and listen to some stomping music and blooming well luved every minute of it! The mud, The people (even those oh so stuck up one's that think they deserve better than the rest of us). I discovered new music and DJ's and met loadsa cool people.

I think where most people are going wrong is having high expectations - if you don't expect things to be a certain way you can't be disappointed! Relax a little and enjoy the fact your not at work damn it - surely that's a good thing in itself!!?

As for the toilet situation - I think there's a lot of money to be made for the person that can come up with a better solution than the current andyloo's used! Personally though I thought they were alright - I managed to go to the loo as I was leaving on Sunday Morning - it was clean enough and there was loo roll - Havvit!!

Oh and I don't know much about sound systems - but I could here everything - even in my full on munted state - surely that means something LoL!

Wow - I've posted like 3 or 4 comments in 2 years and then I write all this - phewee!!

I just want to say hat's of to David - he did the graphics in the big round balloon thingy - sadly I didnt get to see it myself but he did supply us with some free tickets - nice one!
Thanks to Terry for taking me and all Terry's friends! You know who you are.....you guys :o)
(Is this classed as spamming?? Mwaahaahaahaa)

Cant' wait for next year - we're gonna hit Glastonbury for the first time - wohoo!!

See y'all at GG 2008 - or Not!!
xXx

well i wasnt gona go this year ....

i had no dolla and no way to get there.
all week end i thought of a way to make it and join in the sludgy once a year global madness
i gave up on saturday afternoon and started to get drunk ova the decs and even contemplated slapping a mud pack on my face and feet and taking a pee in my garden so id feel more festival involed¬ !! lol :)

and then

.... as if by magic.....

i had a phone call from a friend who was feeling the same as me........Altho he hadnt resorted to mud packs and pissing in gardens.

At 8pm on saturday we made it to stratford got a tickets off a random and headed to the polys tent. the mud was a joke, .... and so were hugo boss shoes worn by my mate that with in seconds had been dunked an F**ked in the swamp ... but who cares .... we made it to global and it rocked.

we bounced in the polys tent for most of the night and wondered to the gods tent just in time to see a load of looser twats trying their hardest at a spiderman style of raving by climbing the tent... making the music stop .... and then finaly falling off the riggiing...

wkd!
i love global gathering! xxxx
