One of the North’s leading club nights is teaming up with Radio One to bring a weekend of free live music to the region.

Newcastle based club night Promise and the BBC radio station have announced that their first two-day concert, known as One Big Weekend, of 2005 will take place at Herrington Country Park in Sunderland on Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th.

The event will see two stages of music on each day. Headlining the main stage on Saturday will be the Foo Fighters, Chemical Brothers, Kasabian, Natalie Imbruglia and Athlete with many more acts on show as well.

The dance stage on Saturday will see world famous DJ, Mauro Picotto take to the decks to entertain the masses. He will be joined by Radio One legends Pete Tong, Judge Jules, Dave Pearce and Fergie. Shapeshifters, Jon O’Bir and the Rhythm Boys complete the line up.

The next day sees Black Eyed Peas, Gwen Stefani, Basement Jaxx, Jamiroquai,
Kaiser Chiefs, Lemar and The Bravery all grace the main stage. While the second stage will host Futureheads, Do Me Bad Things, Interpol, Magic Numbers, Maximo Park and The Subways.

Promise will also be putting on the official One Big Weekend after parties on Saturday and Sunday night at Liquid nightclub in Sunderland. Special guests on Saturday will include Mauro Picotto, Judge Jules, Dave Pearce, Richard Tulip, Trophy Twins and Tom Neville over two rooms playing trance/techno and house.

Sunday’s after party has a more hip hop and R ‘n’ B feel to it with Tim Westwood, Faith Sfx (the human beatbox) and Devon all on in the main room. The other room will showcase the talents of Rhythm Boys, Iain Shepherd and Gary Pescod on a more funky vibe.

Free tickets for all events will be available on a first come, first served basis from Sunderland Civic Centre on Saturday 23rd April and Sunday 24th April from noon.
