This article is about Superchunk Presents Velocity @ CROBAR CLUB in Swansea (UK), Sat 05 May 2007
Bank holidays are special. The thought of an extra day off seams to release a feel good rush of blood to your head which overrides all logical thinking and replaces it with one burning desire. Having a party!
We at Superchunk are no different, and that party spirit has indeed filled our heads and blinded us of thoughts of anything else. So this bank holiday weve decided to do something a bit different, pack our overnight bag and head to Swansea for something we feel its lacking. a big techno party!
So then this bank holiday we bring the residents of Swansea a new night. Velocity Velocity as the name suggests will be all about hard and fast beats, a feast of techno to satisfy your hunger for the harder end of the dance spectrum. Helping us bring the noise to Swansea are two Djs who are at the top of their game, and have spent years honing their skills the length and breadth of the country, and indeed overseas, we present to you Ade Fenton and Guy McAffer.
Ade Fenton first broke onto an unsuspecting techno scene in 1998 with the now legendary Coded EP on his own Advanced label, and since then he has continued to develop his own brand of harsh, twisted dance floor beats. His sound was recognised by many of his peers and releases on such revered labels as Potential, Ground, Planet Rhythm, Audio, Zenit, Primate and Primevil have all helped to consolidate his considerable standing within the genre. As a compliment to his production work, Fenton is also an in demand dj with a busy schedule that has taken him across the globe, from Europe to North and South America, from Malaysia to Australia. He continues to hold his 8 year residency at English techno super club Atomic Jam, and electrify audiences worldwide with his fierce dj sets that fuse thunderous drums with electro and industrial elements such as NIN, Aphex Twin et al now thrown into the mix.
Guy Geezer McAffer was born in 1969 and has been writing and producing his own brand of avin it dance music for the last 6 years. Alongside Chris Liberator, Lawrie Immersion and D.A.V.E the drummer he has been instrumental in the birth and development of the underground acid techno sound that is unique to London.
Geezer singles have appeared on labels as diverse as Stay Up Forever, Tourtured, Smitten, Infected and Bionic Orange to name but a few. The year 2000 saw him establish his very own techno label: RAW (Ripe Analogue Waveforms) which is a platform for his distinctive musical talents and has been well received by the techno world and its djs, while also featuring on a televised set of Carl Cox.
He can also be found rocking the custard at Londons most popular clubs such as Trancentral, Escape from Samsara, as well as regular nationwide appearances for Atomic Jam, Havock, and Hamover. He also regularly plays in America, Canada, Venezuela as well as frequently rocking free parties here there and everywhere.
Guy will be bringing his 909s, 303s and plenty of other bits and bobs to rock Swansea with his Live show, we cannot wait to hear him blow the roof off the Crobar.
Alongside our headliners we welcome some familiar faces, as well as some fresh new ones
Salted slug is a name any hard dance fan in South Wales will know. Resident at Urban Chaos and Psykotik, he will be bringing his own unique brand of techno to the party.
Drunkn Jedi are regulars at Cardiff techno night Holodeck whether theyre warming up for headliners or slamming out the hard stuff, theyre sure to rock any crowd.
Dj Tiny vs Ollie Vaughn. Tiny is another regular at Holodeck in Cardiff, the Superchunk promoter is more known for his House sets with partner in crime Lukey B as Tiny Twins but he loves nothing better than cranking up the decks with his rolling techno. For one night only hes joined by Ollie Vaughn, resident at Dominion @ The Palace a few years ago, Ollie cant wait to play Swansea again.
Lukey B: The other half of the Tiny Twins, Lukey will be kicking off proceedings with a bag full of hard tribal beats and minimal techno.
Chunk Brothers: Superchunks own will be following Lukes lead and warming things up with some tribal goodness, their unique style will be a perfect warm up for the hardness to follow.
