WOW stage to open Glastonbury Dance Village 2010

Glastonbury Festival 2010 is nearly upon us, and as the hottest UK festival of summer prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary in serious style this Friday, we've got the lowdown on where the birthday party is really going to start – at the The WOW! Stage on Thursday evening.

Brand new this year, the The WOW! Stage is one of a clutch of arenas that have been added to a revamped Dance Village this summer, and it promises a genre-defying line-up of the most cutting-edge dance music Glastonbury 2010 has to offer.

Kicking off on Thursday night, The WOW! Stage will be the only major dance arena in action, promising an opening party to destroy all opening parties. Jaymo & Andy George, Hot Natured, Joy Orbison, Jamie xx, Wax Tailor and Beardyman provide covering fire for what's sure to be one of the surprise sets of the weekend from Boy George.

Across the rest of the weekend, you can expect sets from Jamie Jones, Horse Meat Disco, Mat Tolfrey, High Contrast, Redlight, DaM FunK, L-Vis 1990, Jakwob, Hudson Mohawke, Kode9, Four Tet and more...

With a host of other arenas packing out the dance arena alone, this is set to be the biggest dance party since Strictly Come Dancing (except with more spandex and glitter).

Glastonbury Festival announces FULL DANCE VILLAGE line-up

Glastonbury Festival has revealed the complete line-up for this year's Dance Village. Having revealed the bill for the main stages a few weeks ago, you can now check out the plethora of artists playing across the Village's smaller arenas this year. Worthy Farm's electronic haven has a bigger line-up than most devoted dance music events, with artists from across the spectrum playing the event, which takes place June 23-27.

Joining the classic West Dance, East Dance and Pussy Parlure stages are two brand new arenas. Kicking off the music right across the whole festival on Thursday evening will be the brand new WOW! stage, which with its giant pineapple DJ booth, flamingo sculptures and kitsch tropicalia promises a programme of disco, future-garage, house, dubstep from artists including Joy Orbison, DaM FunK, Jamie Jones and Kode9.

Also new in 2010 is Cubehenge, an iconic outdoor venue constructed from fluoro-lit blocks, which promises sets from likes of Will Saul, Norman Jay, Zero 7 and Ashley Beedle.

Arcadia arena video captures 2009's most exciting dance stage

2009 was a year of dance arena's pushing the boat out.

In Ibiza Tiesto pretty much rebuilt privilege to allow his Monday night spectacular, at Global Gathering the Boom box was unveiled - a big daddy spin off of Ettiene de Crecy's equally mind bending lighting rig.

However, the biscuit taker was the Arcadia arena showcased at Glasto, Glade Bestival and Electric Picnic.

The success of the arena in '09 has meant it will be back in 2010 with even more elaborate tricks up its sleeve. We'll tell you more as they tell us.

Glastonbury 'sold out'

Glastonbury 2010 has sold out in less than 24 hours.

Tickets for the 40th Anniversary sold out yesterday helped along by rumours that U2, Radiohead and Beyoncé will all be performing. 2009's event took weeks to sell out while 2008's didn't sell out til the day itself.

A small number of tickets will become available in the coming weeks, kind of rendering this news story redundant. Those who want a chance of buying them should register now at glastonburyregistration.co.uk.

Tickets for the 40th anniversary event will go on sale at 9am on Sunday October 4. The festival will run from June 23 - 27.

Organiser Michael Eavis has said "I'm fully confident that the anniversary line-up will be just that little bit special when it is revealed next year. We want as many people as possible to be part of the celebrations and to enjoy what we do here."

If you want tickets you must register for the photo ID scheme by Oct 2 (that's two weeks away). You can do that here.
