Sad innit?
Big town like this and what are the clubbers talking about?

a private house party
pub night in shifnal
jobs
a shrewsbury event
a family photo
a really old thread
a birmingham event

I mean no disrespect to any of these threads, fair play to you for doing something...my point is how sad it is that there isnt a thriving clubbing scene in a huge ever expanding place like Telford.

Actually i'm probably not doing Sunnys now, some problems since the garage thing... still dont like the bullys tho, saw them warm up for Prodigy and also at Creamfields they were awful both times.

oh christ they're live, even worse...at least they might have played someone elses tunes if it was a dj set.

he he can you see the irony of me slagging them off at the same time as chatting about setting up a night to cater for all tastes equally

If you like.....uk.youtube.com

Question for the hard dance/dnb headz on here....this is the sort of track i can see bridging the gap between rockers & ravers....what you reckon, does it offend you? would it make you leave the room or rock the fuck out to it.

i cant hear it here but if it's a rock track i say adopt a power stance and shred some air guitar

I think what Matt means is the bloke who does the discos in there leaves his gear in there between gigs so he is the resident dj by default, i doubt (unless an agent is involved) a written contract has been drafted.
Legally a verbal agreement can be a "contract" - if i take a telephone call booking a sound system, once i have verbally confirmed supply that is a contract between me and the customer, if either defaults the other party can be sued, quite how it could be proved is another issue.

erm no... a bit more complex than that therory

As someone that is involved with many large events on a national and international level and someone who just happens to live in Telford all I can say about its lack of decent live music is this, Yes Telford is notoriously difficult to hold any meaningful underground type dance event in.

This is due to many factors but mostly lack of decent venues with the right licensing and a fragmentation of its youth culture. The local clubs tend to stick rigidly to the music styles as played by the local commercial radio stations and the local council and police are drastically anti rave as they perceive it to be full of public order problems, guess they have never heard of the term PLUR.

It might be time to change this but that needs a lot of dedication and hard work I am afraid. In the mean time if you want to see a good event this coming weekend then why not pop over to Darby at the Rollerworld and Time complex. The event is called Global Energy and is truly going to be one of the best in the UK so far this year, a hell of a lot of work has been put into this event, and the folks behind it really do intend to make this venue a spectacular replacement for the hole that the Sanctuary in Milton Keynes left and as they where the folks behind many of those legendary moments in time, should have the know-how and expertise by now to pull it off.

So if you make it and find yourself in the Hard Core Big Top and fancy a chat I will be doing the screens etc.

All the best…..Marky-aCe….The Illumin-Nighter…Vivid Image Productions…..Telford.

shameless plug, nicely slipped in there Mark....how it going chap...long time no hear. I'm in the same game as you now, given up with the djing and now do visuals for a few nights at the Q Club (cream, sunnys, mos etc) & the Buttermarket (invasion) and for a couple of bands too (much nicer work too, less hours, more fun that 12 hours in a club)...

I've just got back from a local venue and the owner is up for me putting on a monthly music day/festival/party/gig/event whatever you wanna call it....it'll be on a saturday day/night and i'm hoping to find a good mix of "music" - live or dj'd, ideally a mix of both, from all genres of music from country folk acapella hardstep to punk dub metal soul...anything goes....
Theres even room for video screens so maybe some up & coming vj's fancy a jam, or video artist may wanna show their work off, possibly we could show a film, whatever.

Hi Colin………. Too right long time no see mate……Good to hear about you and the VJ stuff….funny really as there are not many of us and to have both of us in Telford is cool….I have your number I will give you a ring and sort out a time for a drink or two…WAS YOU AT Global Gathering last year as Odd Squid as I sort of remember that name as Global did a thing on us all last year……..Yep it would be nice to make Telford rock and show the Telford folks some true quality production….they have not really had any for a decade as far as I am aware…but I may be wrong…..I did work on the first six or so Chill’s at the Telford Ice Ring but even then it was not a full on production….All the best mate and chat on the landline…I think I have your office number so will ring during office hours….Mark.:

yeah same office number dude...www.bksound.co.uk, its on there, giz us a bell, its been a few years aint it?

I thought you'd retired from this work years ago, i know lately i'm thinking of backing out of club work after a few dodgy gigs (and the difficulty of getting paid a decent rate for work produced by promoters)...prefer the band work & its getting busier as a freelance video/motion graphics editor too.

No i didnt do Global last year, maybe someone snaffled some of my loops off the interweb and they left the logo at the end?....the only biggish outdoor festival i'm involved in currently is the Buldog Bash, but thats mainly working with the main marquee video crew as cameraman, I help out another vj mate in the dance tent for fun afterwards but its not really an Odd Squid gig which are mainly at the Q Club recently.

Nice one Colin…….I did retire for about six months but the bug bites and bites deep. I guess we all have sawdust in our veins…..Funny you doing the camera work for Bulldog Bash as I recall the last time I contacted you was to get one of your hi-band camera’s to do exactly the same job….must have been two years ago I reckon….Good job and I enjoyed working with the live bands it was a change from all the dance based stuff I do, although I did used to do the phoenix festival funnily enough at the same site, but that was many moons ago…..OK then mate chat soon…..Mark.:

but we need more underground music/nights

Bass Pollution was the Best The Telford scene is Ever gonna get !!!

What! Are ya kiddin me on mate!! How about Slinky VS Athena! Lisa pin-up, AJ Gibson (ex godskitchen resident) beltin it out! Best nights ive had in this arse end of the earth town!

PS I'd have to agree with jim hb what little underground scene there is in telford is predominantly hardcore/dnb with all that mc palava! Don't get me wrong each to there own but thats abit gash! We need some good breaks n techno or trance but it wouldn't attract much. Those slinky nights at athena apart from us that used to frequent godskitchen there was about 15 others on the dance floor!! Everyone else was in the hip-hop room upstairs listening to some no talent nutjob pressing play on his cd's!! Disgraceful behaviour!!
