***Q-BIC THE REVIEW***
“Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun?”….. Or so the saying goes, and I most certainly agree! Q-bic is 3 years old and I have no idea where the time has gone! I can’t believe that we have been trekking up and down the M5 for over 36 months!
Q-bic is the main night in BS23’s calendar in Weston-super-mare and has fast become the place to be in the south west, you are always guaranteed a top night out when q-bic is in town!
There have been numerous events under the Q-Bic banner from the first event at stars nightclub to the mighty T4 after party at the H20 club and the last event from last month where we had Darren styles, Whizzkid and Sy all for free to celebrate the owner Ralph’s birthday.
Numerous DJ’s and MC’s have graced the Q-Bic flyers including Hixxy, Sy, Styles, Dougal, Breeze, Joey Riot and Mark EG as well as Whizzkid and storm to name but a few, but as well as all the top names within the hardcore scene Q-Bic has also spawned the crème d la crème of hardcore DJ’s and MC’s in the south west today.
And here it is 3 years on and still going strong! The venues might change from time to time but the concept is still the same, a bloody good night out with some of the country’s top DJ and MC talent and tonight was no exception. We had the original old skool master DJ Supreme doing a 90 minute set as well as MC Whizzkid, throw in the Q-Bic residents and you have recipe for a superb night out!

As we walked into the club we could see that this was going to be a good night, the club had been given an overhaul Q-Bic style, with uv décor and camouflage netting from the ceiling to the floor! With the two huge projection screens either side of the stage. And either side of the screens is some uv netted boxes for tonight’s appearance from the South West dance contingent the ‘Cyber Kandie’ dancers. The place was looking awesome!

First to hit the decks is Q-Bics newest resident Reegz, he has been playing for Q-Bic for over a year now and has finally earned his residency! Call me biased if you like? But we all agreed that Reegz played a beautifully mixed hour and probably one of the best sets I have heard him play here at BS23, he has certainly come a long way this year and you can see why he has earned his residency. It certainly was a perfect first set with tunes such as ‘fall down on me’, ‘silver dawn’, ‘dance me’ and Reegz’s very own new tune ‘ease your mind’ which is definitely one of those goosebump, dance floor filler tunes and is undoubtedly one to look out for in the future!
Alongside DJ Reegz is up and coming MC Venom, this is the sort of talent that Q-Bic spawns from it’s melodious loins. This kid can definitely MC! With his fresh lyrics and perfect mouth scratching is certainly a talent to watch out for in the future!

By 10.30 the room was filling nicely and everyone was content to hit the dance floor from the off! The floor seemed to stay full from the start and it certainly didn’t diminish through Bishop’s set. As usual the local boy’s talent certainly shone through as Bishop rocked out! With tunes such as ‘a feeling’, Bishop’s favorite ‘elysium’, one of my favorites at the moment ‘spaceman’ and Bishop’s very own remix of Vinylgroover’s ‘virtual dreams’ (this is another dance floor filler to watch out for!) The scratch miester Bishop as always joined by the unmistakable talents of MC Vandal, this duo are the prime example of the pure talent that we can thank Q-Bic for.
At 11.30 DJA hit the decks with a remarkable hour of what can only be described as, erm…well…. If you can imagine you are taking a train ride, a train ride on a beautiful old steam train, this ride takes you on a journey that meanders through the rustic hills of some far off place as you gaze through the windows onto some green and pleasant land, the deep blue sky’s rise above on the horizon, you feel the warmth of a summer sun on your face just as you breathe in this stunning sight a bomb drops down from the sky and blows you into oblivion! This is what DJA does! He lulls you into a false sense of security with tunes such as ‘you’re my angel’, ‘getting better’ and ‘fires in the sky’ then out of nowhere hits you with something faster and then a little harder and then into what I can only describe as unequivocal, full on, as hard as you like gabba! With Skinny D alongside on the mic, this was most certainly one hell of a ride, The Dark God of Gabba vs The King of Chav as we affectionately call this pair! And as always they delivered!

Supreme hit the decks looking like he too had been hit by DJA’s H-Bomb! And for the next 90 minutes the THC head honcho rolled out the tunes! Everyone who knows me well, knows that I have a slight fascination with Ramos & Supreme! From ‘back in the day!’ so for me it was quite nice to see the one half of my obsession on his own for a change! And I can say I was not disappointed! Whizzkid joined Supreme for the first hour of his set, and as always Whizzkid hyped the crowd into a frenzy! This man with a coat of many colours(!), as always, grinned from ear to ear through his hour, totally in touch with his adoring public! You can see that he is totally dedicated to the scene that he is in and completely proficient in what he does. MC Motion took the mic and expertly took over from the country’s top MC for the last 30 minutes of Supreme’s set.
The 90 minutes flew by as tune after tune flew out from the speakers, ‘brainstorm’, ‘stay’, ‘feel the power’ and ‘silver water’ to name but a few came and went, all expertly mixed by a total professional. My only disappointment was that the big man of hardcore didn’t play ‘gotta believe’ but I guess there are only so many top tunes you can fit into 90 minutes!

HDQ followed on at 2am with the usual shenanigans that you can expect from this mischievous duo, add to this the MC Drew, complete with green glasses made from straws and you have an hour and 50 minutes of complete and utter lunacy! With tunes such as ‘lovin’, ‘all the tears’, ‘cry’ and ‘spending my time’, thrown in for good measure, this was an insane end of the night to add to an insane 3 years!

This was probably one of the best Q-Bic’s I have been to, but then I seem to say that after every one of these events I have been to over the last three years!
So, Happy 3rd Birthday to Q-Bic! We know there will be even bigger and better birthday’s to come, because we are safe in the knowledge that this event brings you the finest talent the hardcore scene has to offer as well as the best up and coming hardcore talent in the South West!

The next Q-Bic is on Saturday 9th June with Lisa Marie, HDQ, Bishop, Reegz and DJA come and join us for some Q-Bic fun and frolics!!

Shouts to: Ralph the Q-Bic legend! Thank you for some amazing nights, we know how much effort, sweat, blood and tears you put into giving us these mind-blowing nights out! No doubt we will still be talking about them when we are old and grey! Some of us sooner than others eh? LOL!!

What can i say...... a blinding review once again Amanda.

Yes 3 yrs have past and yes we do have the cream of the crop when it comes to DJs and MCs and that what makes Q-bic, yes the Headliners are a big puller for the people but when the ravers come and see the guys that we have as residents play they stay and talk about how good they are and i am proud that i have got who i have working with me and the loyalty that they give for the Q-bic name. so i personally thank Motion, Vandal, DJA, Bishop, Reegz & Amanda, Skinny D, Outburst and newist resident MC Venom, also Whizzkid, Styles, Hixxy, Sy, Storm in fact every DJ that has played at a Q-bic event thanks for your support also and not forgetting all the ravers that have come past and present. Yes 3 yrs have past and yes another will come and go with more and more events to come such including Fusion (July 13th) and T4 after parties - of which Q-bic will continue to host every year its in town...... and this year with Kev and Tom from extreme vision it gunna rock.

Dates for your diaries

9th June Q-bic - lisa Marie - vocalist for Dougal and Gammer
22nd June - Q-bic meets Hardcore Distortion @ Capones, Dursley. with Sy & Storm
13th July - Q-bic meets Hardcore Distortion @ Fusion, Club Ice
22nd July - Q-bic meets Extreme Vision Clubland Xtreme Hardcore Album Tour pt3 & T4 After party
