BS23 in Weston-super-Mare has produced some of the finest talent in the south west, across many styles of music, this is the club where Reegz developed his DJing career, where we have seen other top class DJ’s progress their talents and where we have seen some of the south west’s top mc talent first take hold of a microphone.
This is the club that has been the home of many successful nights including Q-Bic, Pure Hardcore, Bio-logical, Bassline and where myself and Reegz hatched our Hybrid night.
For over 2 years we have been trekking up and down the M5 almost every weekend, sometimes even twice a weekend, to what has become our second home - BS23. This is the club where we have met most of our raving family and where we have made some good friends.

We arrived at the club early; first on the decks we had Jessop & Nightfire complete with his mixing hat! This pair are some of the DJ’s that have benefited from the BS23 open deck nights where bedroom DJ’s can get their first play out at a club to gain some experience, over come some of their nerves and to gain a valuable insight into how hard it can be making the move from bedroom to nightclub.
Jessop & Nightfire settled in well to their set which was full of vocally based hardcore with a few surprises thrown in for good luck, one of which was ‘bounce’. This pair have the DJing bug now for sure, this probably wouldn’t have happened if BS23 had not been there for them!

The time is now 10.15, the red carpet was rolled out, the white kittens where fluffed and puffed! The blue smarities had been taken out of the bowl, the six dozen white lily’s were stood to attention in their vases, and the greek gods are stood by the chaise lounge! It must be ‘Monkcare’ time!!
Along side the DJ Monk was Lewis D, this pair are Weston super mare’s finest drum n bass duo and head honchos of one the most successful nights held at BS23, Bassline. And for the next hour we were not disappointed, after all the whining that The Monk (or as I affectionately call him ‘The Diva’!!) had been doing on the internet all day, after Ralph had changed the set times for the 13th time in 24 hours just to accommodate The Diva’s requests! He came through, Lewis D and Monk smashed the venue once again! With tunes such as Hazard’s ‘superdrunk’, Callide’s‘feather duster’ & Clipz’ ‘download’ the drum & bass heads love them, the hardcore heads love them, I love them, despite all the whinging and whining we just love them!!

Up next was DJ Reegz with a set of tunes that reminds him of BS23 including ‘edge 1 remix’, ‘don’t go remix’, Reegz’ anthem and DJA’s favorite ‘everytime we touch’ & his last tune being a very apt and worthy choice of ‘won’t forget these days’. This was a very sad moment for both of us; this was the last time Reegz was going to be behind the decks of BS23 and the last time that I would see the BS23 crowd loving what my husband was playing! Reegz has come along way in the two years he has been playing at BS23, if it wasn’t for Ralph and his club he would not be the DJ that he is today and for this we are eternally grateful!

Up next was DJA and once again he did what he does best, the false sense of security that he lulls everyone into before the sledgehammer comes down and blows us all to oblivion! From tunes such as ‘we can boogie’ & ‘my humps!’ finishing with some gabba from ‘angerfist’. DJA is the extreme! The oblivion ride of BS23! The quiet fisherman with a passion for all that is over 200 bpm!! But we all love him for what he does, even if sometimes it does result in a verbal warning from Ralph!!

At 12.15 HDQ hit the decks of BS23 for the last time, Ralph and Outburst at their best, this was a very emotional moment as this is where Hardcore Distortion and Q-Bic first met, in BS23, this is where the mischievous duo of HDQ were formed and this is where they entertained the BS23 massive for the very last time! And the crowd were just enjoying every minute of their set from tunes such as ‘all the tears I cried’& ‘cry your tears’ does anyone else see a theme running here? And they both finished…. In tears!.... with their own rendition of a mashup of all the great hardcore tunes from the year.

For the last set of the night we had Teflon & Hex, by this time I was pretty battered!! To say the least, they rocked the place! My highlight of the hour being ‘report to the bassline’, they kept the crowd stomping until the very end. Their set ended with ‘making me wanna dance’, and then Ralph took to the decks with Teflon & Hex with ‘my direction’ and the last tune to be played at BS23 was ‘spending my time’, a very fitting end to an extremely enjoyable night.

This is probably the hardest review I have ever written, simply because, for me, this is the end of an era, but, when all is said and done, what we all have to remember is that BS23 is still just 4 walls, it’s the people within those 4 walls that makes it what it is, we took it to H20, Fusion, Capone’s in Dursley, Hardcore Distortion in Yeovil, now is the time to take it to our new home Vision!! R.I.P BS23, gone but not forgotten…… well maybe?…..until Friday!!

wicked review amanda.sorry i had to play cry your tears.But yeah we all had some wicked nights up there and like you said gives the djs who play at home as lot the experience they need to play in a club and there aint many places people can do that.but now vison is the new home for the dance music scene in weston and im sure we will all have some wicked memories from there to talk about soon.startin this fri..

Wicked review again and a good sendoff for bs i think.
It will be missed especially by us who had played up there regular for the last 2 yrs and had some wicked times and made some good friends.

Oh and Nath .Your a pain in the arse sometimes but we still luv u lol!!!

yeah we forgive you nath but you go to far sometimes got know when to stop.

Top review, me and the missus had 2 wicked nights with the yeovil crew at BS23 which will live long in the memory, would have loved to have made it over for this but was abroad, big up Chris and Ralph can honestly say would never have raved in WSM if it wasnt for you!!
