Today in the D.J world it’s very much an open market, whilst ‘back in the day’ you had only a hand picked few such as - Wild Child, Chemistry (rip) & of course D.J Rap - representing the female sanction on the decks in our scene.

Today has seen a nice influx of the ladies step up to the decks and bring down mixing justice as it should be done!!!

One of my favourite D.J’s (Lady Brock) had the opportunity to play at the last Pier party, now it’s time to get to know a local girl! - Totally smashing on to the scene like a female Wolverine - with regular payouts on our beloved internet radio stations, and one exciting new track on a certain Raw & Lethal label, it can only mean GOOD times and big things for this female selector……….

Big up rude gal! - Welcome today and thank you for taking part, first off it seems from the out set that you are chocker busy with bookings and internet radio!!!? - Could you please tell us a bit about your 2009, have you been affected by the ba!!!#* Credit crunch? Also what events have really ‘smashed it’ for you and made you think ‘WOW!’ and how has it been playing on internet radio stations regularly!???

Kandie Rush:

"Hellooooooooo,
Yeah 2009 has definitely been a turning point for me. Lost my job earlier in the year cos of the ba!!!#* Credit crunch but it made me work harder on the production front. Now having 3 tunes released on Lethal Theory Raw and more on the way, as well as working with such names as Eufeion and DJ Unstable and Kurt Deejay, I’m really looking forward to what 2010 has to offer."

"Internet Radio is how this all started for me when I got back into my music after a few years out. I help run a station called HeadRush Live as well as playing on Krafty Radio, Underground Exhilaration and Dance Transmission. What else am I gonna do, watch Eastenders??!! Haha. It’s good to get feedback on any new tunes b4 they are played out and I find radio is a good way of trying new skills b4 its done in front of a crowd lol."

"The events that have been the best for me playing out this year by far have gotta be Fractal Chaos in Bournemouth (what a night)!!! And a night I played at in Brighton for Development, the good old days of free parties should never die………….."

For the heads that may not know you so well - could you please give us a brief insight into your path way onto the decks!? - How did you get into raving, mixing and playing hardcore!?

Kandie -Rush:

"Well at 15 years old and VERY much into my music, I got a set of decks for xmas and I was well away. A DJ at a local under 18s night helped me and after locking myself in my bedroom for 2 days straight I was ready! I played at Equinox in Bournemouth a few times and loved every second of it. I did make a track back in those days that I still have but it sounds very much dated now." Lol

"I’m a local lass from Christchurch near Bournemouth and after 5 years being on the local scene I took a few years out for kids and a failed marriage (as ya do)! And came back into the scene after meeting a new group of friends. I have to admit, if it wasn’t for Gaz from HeadRush Live I wouldn’t have got back here to be honest. I owe him a lot. Hardcore was an obvious choice as it’s such high energy, happy and melodic. You gotta love it!"

What other styles of music do you play? - What’s your favourite?: )

Kandie Rush:

"I do also play Liquid Drum & Bass as well as Classic Trance and just getting into Hardstyle (Italian & Dutch) just for shits & giggles
My favourite by far though is Upfront Hardcore, much more fun to play and listen to. Although…..the Hardcore Techno room at the Hardcore Heaven Weekender REALLY showed me a dark side I seem to have as I spent most of the weekend in there absolutely ROCKIN it."

Have you found it hard in getting bookings at all?

Kandie Rush:

"Yeah, you gotta be at the top to get a lot of bookings nowadays, it all seems to be very political out there, but as time goes on I seem to be getting more in demand and better known. It takes hard work and time."

What advice would you give to another up & coming female D.J?

Kandie Rush:

"Enjoy it, don’t let the weirdos out there get you down (trust me I have had a few latch on), push yourself hard, send demos etc to everyone you possibly can, its not gonna land in your lap."

You have obviously started production! - Can you please tell us a bit more about your forthcoming track, the sound of it and any release dates (if known!): ) - Also what was it like working with the amazing Joey Riot??;)

Kandie Rush:

"Joey is a real sweetie. A very busy man but really helpful. I have learnt a lot from him this year. I have 3 upcoming releases with Lethal Theory Raw and more to come yet as well as work on Xpander Records and a tune in progress at the moment with Eufeion. I seem to be getting a reputation for very euphoric breakdowns."

"My known anthem ‘Bam’ and a vocal track sung by myself called ‘Release Me’ is due out early November on Lethal Theory Raw EP 003 also on Digital release and my 1st track called ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ out on digital release in the new year.
Chained Beats will be out soon on Xpander Records but awaiting a release date."

"Hahaha, um……….Smirnoff Ice, you can’t beat a sugar rush when your pissed! But only AFTER I have played my set. "

Your name is very striking, how did you come up with this? And what is your all time BESTEST sweet!??

Kandie Rush:

"Kandie Rush came from me being hyperglycaemic and after new medication in 2007 came my 1st ever sugar rush. My name, Andie, easily turned into Kandie (Candy) + the Rush, you with me?????"

"I’m defiantly a chocoholic rather than into sweets but the Harribo fried eggs are by far the best sweet in the world. Chocolate hazelnut praline on the other hand would top anything else."

What words of hardcore encouragement can you shout out there to rally the ravers to the Pier dance floor!???

Kandie Rush:

"Wheres the rush? Show me the rush!!!!!!!!!!!!! Haha" (Private joke between me and Sc@r)

How are you feeling about the event and above all playing at the Pier??

Kandie Rush:

"After being at the last pier event, OMG, do I feel priviledged!! The last one absolutely shook the foundations of Worthing and you know we’re gonna do it again!!!!!"
