Hardcore Distortion- The Return!!!
Finally…………… Hardcore is back!!!!!!................ In Yeovil!!!!

After a 5 month wait Hardcore Distortion had once again secured a venue in Yeovil. They had tried a few new places (namely Capones in Dursley and Kudos in Wells), but none of them had been quite the same. And after a few negotiations things were on for the renovated and refurbished nightclub formerly know as Dukes, now called Tabu.

There had been a fair buzz around Yeovil in the few weeks leading up to the return event, but unfortunately Hardcore Distortion was up against stiff competition in Extreme Vision in Weston, and the last ever Delerium to be held in Lakota. I was hopeful that we were going to be in for a busy night however, as loads of people had told me they were coming.

I arrived at around half 8 and headed up to check out the place before it opened, so I could get a proper idea of how the new layout looked. Half of the old bar had been cut off to create a smaller bar, but another one had been put where the stage had been previously. The old dj booth had been got rid of, and a new one had been built in front of the toilets with a little stage for the mc’s to stand on. The walkway around the outside had also been taken away to create a bigger dance floor. Around the outside were several long leather sofa’s, and there were plenty of stools and chairs scattered around. Everything is now decked out in white and brown leather as well now. The place is looking really good now, looks a lot better than Dukes used to.

Anyway, onto the music….. Dja was up first, playing a happy hardcore set, and kicked off things with Sunshine. Unfortunately Pro was unable to attend so Kendall stepped in in his place, and did a fine job on short notice. The set continued on with Shooting Star and finished off with Heart of Gold. As it was too early to dance me and Nath set ourselves the challenge of seeing who could sit on every chair in Tabu first. So off we went around the club till we were fighting over the last 2 chairs. I finally got the last stool (after waiting for some guy to go to the toilet lol). Game, me!!!

Next up was Reegz with Peatty on the mic, and as usual with Reegz we had smooth mixing, and a nice upfront tune selection, with tunes such as Sure Feels Good, Faith and Love Comes. It was also time for my first stomp in Tabu, and after all these months off I seemed to have loads of energy and danced for a fair chunk of the set.

Naughty took over afterwards for his first visit to Yeovil, and was joined for the first half of his set by Mc Me, who has been impressing me a lot as of late. Another upfront set followed, including a second playing of Sure Feels Good (which was all good by me, I love that tune), as well as a few others I can’t remember. That’s cause for the first time in a long time I was still dancing!!! As the second half of the set kicked in we had our big name of the night in Wotsee, and as expected he was his usual big bag of Welsh awesome, who had me singing along to his trademark lyrics. The set finished in awesome style with a well placed gabba tune. Awesome!!!! This was the second time I had seen Naughty, and although the first time round I wasn’t overly impressed it was a whole different ball game this time, good stuff I say!!

With Wotsee staying on the mic, it was time for the dj’s to change over, and now it was the turn of the nights promoter Outburst, accompanied as always by Ralph for the HDQ extravaganza. While the well known lyrics continued for another half hour we had plenty of the HDQ happiness with Skydivin and Dance, before Wotsee handed over the mic for another helping of Me. The set continued with plenty more nice dancey tunes such as Silver Water and 24/7. And amazingly I was still dancing, god knows where this sudden energy had come from (and before you mention it, no nothing illegal), I know what it is, it’s the power of the core!!!!

The 1-2 set belonged to Fingerz, who was also making his HD debut, and he played a slightly more freeformy edged set, with tunes like Infectious and the remix of Voodoo People. Several different mc’s mc’d this set, with both Me and Kendal having another crack. As this set drew to a close my energy finally gave out and a few of us headed off home.

It was so good to have HD back in it’s spiritual home (although under a different name) and I had one of the best nights I’ve had out in months. The music and mcing was top notch, the atmosphere was spot on, the dance floor was rocking and everything else was good. In a rare turn of events these days we even had sound security and a well organised smoking area!!! Next months is looking spot on as well, be there or be square!!!

Shouts to :- Outburst for getting Hardcore back in Yeovil, Craig-Tabu for allowing it, Nath-Nightfire & Karen, Jane and the dancers, Payner, Motion & Tash (cheers for the beer bud), Mandy & Reegz, Wotsee, Peatty, Kendal, Ralph, Al & Sarah, Mc Me & Destin-E and anyone I’ve forgotten.
