Potentially amazing night, major technical issues.
Yup, the in-house SoundSystem let us down in the end, along with the weather. Don't know if there's gonna be another BLEND, so if you were there, you made history!

no giraffes made it mate... maybe that's why there was a lack of atmosphere...

came along early for the dubstep, thought it was pretty good. unfortunate it didn't all go to plan, would be a shame if thats it for blend. strange but somewhat predicable that people complain that theres not enough hiphop/breaks/dub nights, but then don't show when they do get put on. best of luck

im guilty of not showing me face but do feel that there are too many nights poping up so it becomes hard to go to all of them. most of the nights in york this month have been quiet(er) and i think its partly down to the amount of nights there are now.
first ones are often quiet so i hope you get another try.

cheers holly, i'm glad you enjoyed yourself despite the technical hitches...

BLEND may well make a reappearance, but it definitely won't be at the City Screen next time... I've learnt a lot from setting up my first night, and the next will be a whole lot better and bigger.

No, I've bemused the punters with Dubstep before at Region 2. Even had a small gaggle of dubstep lovers turning up each time I did as well ;)

well excuuuuuuse me. one needle needed it's weight re-adjusting after the second DJ, then it was fine. i've since set up all the equipment (decks, needles, mixer) back in my house and everything works fine (as we knew at the time, 'cause the sound was coming through fine in the headphones).

the poor sound and Technical Issues were down to the in-house sound system and "sound engineer", which unfortunately due to our collective lack of expertise regarding sound systems we couldn't solve.

basically, the first DJ's set was fine, then the needle needed re-balancing, after the second, but at that point we plugged in a "feedback control amp" or something, that I think messed the whole thing up. as I found out later, the "sound engineer" was just there to set up the thing, and not really to level it up and stuff, and between us DJs we didn't really know how to sort it out.

for the record.

next time though, we'll have it sorted.

actually, I've still one more date to fill at the City Screen, on Wednesday 27th June (the same day Mr Bliar finally f**ks off).. and I'll bring along a proper soundsystem (of the Rudeboy Logic or SoulSpun variety) and a proper sound man...

details of line-ups etc to be arranged, and entry will still be £2.50. hope to see you all there =)

city screen allways has problems with feedback and power hums that people think is down to the carts, unfortunatly this has happened with other soundsystems too, well defenatly with pix's anyway.
that room has shit acoustics and it could be good to talk with the high grade crew and see if they still get problems and think hard about speaker positioning.
what decks was used? lower end decks dont cope to well with heavy vibration.

details of line-ups etc to be arranged
when do you think you'll be sorting it? i can get a breakbeat demo over to you if theres a slot free?

Guilty as charged. I have the rope ready for your execution

Feedback at the city screen is usually due to the stylus picking up the vibrations from the speaker stacks which are usually used as partial monitors, the decks should be set well back from the main stacks and seperate monitors placed at head height (away from the decks) to avoid this problem, if you have the main system to close the stylus will be picking up the sounds being played through the speakers, in the same way the mic can give nasty feedback sounds. a bigger system next time may actually make this problem worse not better. speaker positioning, and deck positioning may be worth more consideration.

Def, you don't really need a lot of amplification for city screen and you def don't want meaty bass bins in there, the acoustics are shite but as bain says, good positioning can generally solve things, also try to reduce vibrations/hum by using dampers underneath the decks, concrete slabs work best!
