Savaged - No Bull
Savaged has been running its monthly 'Hard House Party' now for over 5 years, and in July 2007 celebrates its 6th Birthday special at its home of The Junction in York. In this time it has firmly established itself as Yorks leading hard house club, surpassing all others that have tried, and normally failed, to make a niche in Yorks hard house scene. Other nights may claim to be 'Yorks Biggest Dance Event', but anyone that has actually ever been to Savaged will tell you that the atmosphere in these other events does not even come close to Savaged's warm, friendly, up for it attitude it continues to show month in month out.....

Anyway, to the review.

Savaged Review April 2007

Kicking things off in fine bouncy style was Olly Calpin. His mixing was tight, and his chops and cuts all perfectly in time. Olly impressed everyone that was there at the start with everything from his tune selection and mixing, to his tricks, chops and cuts. Finishing off his set with a bouncy remix of Kelly Clarkson split opinions however! Olly is a DJ to keep an eye out for in future....

Next up was Savaged resident Ash Sparx. Ash's set was a natural progression from Ollys bouncy set, with more bouncy beats but slightly harder than Ollys style, with lots of old bounce classics dropped. Another top set from the Savaged Resident baldy!!

Jme Cain was up next, providing a change of direction in the music style for an hour. Very much on the European Trance style tip, Jme's set was full of energy and in my opinion was a nice change to the bounce that had been playing earlier, Jme looked to be on fire, not a beat out place and looking like he was thouroughly enjoying himself. Dropping the BK remix of 'I Dont Care' sent the crowd into a cheering frenzy. A top set from Mr Cain.

However, Jme's set was very much a warm up for things to come, as next up was Mr Savaged himself, Martin C. By this time the Junction was filling up nicely, and the typical Savaged atmosphere was in full swing. Everywhere you looked there was a smiling, beaming face, with peoples arms coming from left, right and centre in order to shake your hand or give you a hug. As Savaged is a members only night, there is a real 'family' vibe, everyone knows each other, and even if your a new member, the Savaged crew make you feel so welcome thats its not long before you've made a load of new friends....

Anyway, back to the sets. Martin usually plays a lot of donk, and I was expecting nothing less this time, but from his first tune, you could tell the mood was different. Kicking things off with Justin Bourne's 'Drop The Dime' paved the way for an onslaught of older hard house hoover classics, including such gems as 'Duel', '9 Bar', 'Second Sun', 'Hold It' and the one and only RR Fierce's most sought after tune, Narcan!! The set of the night in my opinion, and one that still needed to be followed by another 2 DJ's......

Vi4gra resident Niel H was on next, and to be honest this is the set I remember least. Not as mean and moody as the previous set, going back in a more bouncy direction with tunes such as 'Fantastic Thing' and the Paul Maddox bootleg 'Hoovers Sound Better With You', a couple of slight slip ups along the line stuttered the flow of the set, with the music cutting off not once but twice (EDIT - Personally I thought it only happened once, I was actually going off what someone else had told me cos I couldnt remember, apologies to Niel if this is wrong, was bit spangled by this point lol!!) but otherwise a nice solid set.

Finally, Savaged Resident Kid Rich stepped up to the ones and twos. Being on last gave Rich the opportunity to show of his darker styles for a change, and boy did he do that. Nothing majorly filthy, but certainly not for the faint of heart, Rich's set was filled with lots of new material, including the massively in demand JP and Jukesy remix of 'Dont Cross The Line', which was one of my personal highlights. In fact, Rich's set was so full of personal highlights, that from start to finish I was dancing like a loon on the stage, sweat pouring from my head like a waterfall! (cant wait for the pictures to be put up lol!!!). A top set to top off a top night.

And so concludes my review. Keep an eye out for info on the next one, with Steve O Brady, Martin C and Brucey, Cookie and Gooderz, Olly Calpin, and yours truly Norris all gracing the stage to make Savaged another top night for its loyal members....... More info will be posted soon, so, watch this space!!!

Turbulance had a bigger atmosphere than savaged.

It might of had a bigger atmosphere but it wont of had a better one!

Savaged is friendly and you dont feel as though your been laughed at or picked on, you can dance or drink without ppl staring you out.
Everyone is there for a good time NOT a fight or a bitch!

As far as york's night life goes i'd say Savaged is top (despite it's small size!)

Bang on the money bro, you could hold a night in a shed and provided the music was good and people there were cool and out for a good time you'd still have an excellent night lol!

7th that! U r damn rite, its about time every1 realised that the reason to be at a nite like savaged is for the music, there's so many other nights with people who strut about creating bad atmospheres spoiling it for every1 else. ITS ABOUT THE MUSIC. Since the re-opening savaged has become a much more enjoyable place to be, im sure it will carry on for years to come, it doesnt stay down for long.

An atmosphere is what makes a night no matter what size the venue is, how ever you will get a better atmosphere dancng in a crowd of a 1000 people than a 100 people. Dont get me wrong i prefer to dance in a crwod of a 100 freindly people than a 1000 chavs with caps on there heads but if it was a 1000 clubbers there for the music i would prefer to be in that crowd
