Drum N' Bass Stage

Artificial Intelligence

Hailing from North London, Artificial Intelligence are a production duo comprising of Zula Warner and Glenn Herweijer. Riding high on their early success they state their ethos as wanting ‘ to spread our music to as many people as possible, that's the whole reason for doing it in the first place. It's the satisfaction of making it but also of spreading it to as many people as possible. Not like a preacher or someone on the TV. We prefer to let our music do the talking across the world. You make some kind of mark on people's minds.’ While they have often been tagged as ‘newcomers’ onto the drum& bass scene, the boys are far from it. Working their way up from the top, they have racked up over ten years of experience and boy has it been a busy ten years… As a production unit, A.I’s releases are anything but predictable and they tend to reflect a variety of drum&bass styles. Over the years they have spanned the slighter darker side, with releases out on Commercial Suicide and 31 Record, as well as flirting with some other labels including Full Cycle, Goodlooking and CIA. A.I have even dabbled with commercial labels, releasing remixes of some of the biggest dance and hip hop tracks of the past few years including Kelis’s Trick Me, Eric Prydz Slammin’ and more recently Fat Freddys Drop Cays Crays. Yet A.I do not stop at just making quality tunes and are on the top of their game in the DJ circuit as well. Undeniably one of the busiest and most popular drum &bass talents around today, their diversity and adaptability have made them regular headliners in both Europe and beyond with their music taking them to The Ministry, End, Fabric, Swerve, Movement, Faster and Breakin’ Science just to name a few. 2007 alone has seen collaborations with Brazilian superstar DJ Marky featuring vocals from the hugely talented Ben Westbeech as well as remixes of Total Science and releases on Widescreen Recordings. While still highly credible efforts, all hands are on deck at the moment as they work on their new album, due out in 2008. If the last decade is anything to go by from this London pair, 2008 looks set to be their best yet and has got everyone in drum&bass waiting in anticipation, definitely something that only happens once in a while. Random Movement

Ever since the 2005 anthem “Stars in the Dark” flew up the charts, Random Movement has captured the attention of every forward thinking drum and bass pusher and shaker, paving his path to the top. With a host of releases on such labels as Innerground, Creative Source, Bingo, Liquid V and Bassbin amongst many others, Random Movement’s music is stirring the pot of creativity and soulful vibes, infusing both deep and uplifting emotions into his rush of beats and bass. Characterized by his love of Jazz, Soul, Funk and Dub styles, his sound reaches across musical boundaries and genres, evoking a whole host of feelings from memories past. His DJ’ing abilities combined with his selection of anthem classics and next-step tunes have gotten him bookings from coast to coast, catching the ears of fans both young and old. With a radio show on Bassdrive, tours of both US coasts as well as Europe planned, and a full-length album due out within the year, 2008 is proving to be a big year for R_m. Keep your eyes peeled for show dates for this bright new talent in your area soon!

Unknown Error VS. Dax

At only 9 years Dax (Pruven Music) is a dedicated drum and bass junkie whose DJ'ing has become absolutely second nature to him and an absolute obsession to be on point at all times when playing. Dax is still a kid but he's wise beyond his years when it comes to knowledge of drum and bass producers/ DJ's and he's been killing it for the last year at various shows in Arizona. A recent chance meeting between Dax and one of his favorite artist, UK producer Unknown Error, (Renegade Hardware) has lead to a instantly strong friendship and ultimately a fantastic tag team duo that absolutely kills the dance floor with smashing tracks, tight programming and impeccably smooth mixing.
Unknown Error has released music on labels such as Renegade Hardware, Moving Shadow, Trouble on Vinyl and Cymbalism. Some of just the few hits released recently include "Alone", "Struggle" and of course the classic "The Yearning". Aside from production UE is also known for smashing DJ sets so between the two of these cats they are not to be missed. In the near future Dax and UE will be picking up and traveling to play together in the states and then soon off to the UK and beyond so don't miss the first stateside set that they'll play together at Mayday!

Tarzan VS. Scope

Tarzan and Skope have been working together musically since 1997. It is no shock that they will dazzle you with their chemistry behind the decks. They promise to give you a set filled with smooth mixing, pounding bass lines, warm vocals, turntable trickery and the dance floor sweat slippery. Shaun Harris will be sprinkling their set with lyrical cinnamon to keep that vibe rolling till the sun comes up!

Quentin VS. DFT

Quentin:
Without question one of Arizona's hardest working Drum and Bass DJ's, Quentin has been assaulting dance floors with running beats and pounding bass lines. His dominance within Arizona's electronic music community has earned him bookings on a national circuit. Sharing the stage with the worlds best drum and bass Dj's such as Hive, Gridlock, Gein, Spor and many more. In 2006 he joined the respected drum and bass production group called Microterrorizum. Some members include DFT, UltraBlack, Zardonic, Vortex Involute, Blal and the list goes on. Some of his regular stops have been Detroit & Ann Arbor Michigan, Seattle, Baltimore and all over Arizona. Early in 2008 he became a resident Dj at one of Phoenix's infamous weekly's, The Blunt Club. Late in 2008 Quentin and partner V will launch Arizona's only deep and rolling style drum and bass label called Pruven Music, They will be concentrating on the deeper and harder side of drum and bass with a little bit of soul. Lastly Quentin was just picked up by the Infamous Urban Agency USA backed and owned by Mickey Finn & Aphrodite. To sum things up this artist has a bright future in performing and producing music.

DFT:
Licensed and bonded rudeman, DFT has been in the drum and bass practice for over a decade. Working relentlessly as a dj, producer, and promoter, he has dominated the Phoenix scene since his arrival in 2000. He has opened for the likes of Goldie, Dara, Andy C, Dieselboy, Shy FX, Donald Glaude, and Z-trip among countless others. As the only d&b dj out of four mixers nominated for the title of "best dj" by the Phoenix New Times, he has exhibited superiority with his seamless mixing and turntable antics. DFT is a cornerstone of AZ's underground music scene having held residencies at the legendary Lucky Dragon, Essential Wednesdays, Sub-Concious, Rumble Sessions, and Konkrete Jungle to name a few. All the while, he has always sought to push his sound to greater audiences appearing on top-ranking Phoenix radio stations like Power 92.3 and Energy 92.7, as well a host of internet and college radio shows. He has been spotted performing at nightclubs all over the west coast. Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and Denver are just a few of DFT's regular stops. 2004 brought him international recognition as a producer when he released a colaborative project with drum and bass legend DJ Soulslinger for the Liquid Sky label. Producing under the alias "David Francis Turnstyle" and with influences like Digital, Ink, Breakage, and Q-Project, his sound can be described as soulfully rugged. "I am a dj first and a producer second" he says modestly. With polished crowd-rocking skills and coolly calculated delivery, this veteran comes correct year after year, time and time again. Often imitated though never duplicated, DFT has set the bar awfully damn'd high for anyone who would attempt to front on such mad-crazy skills.

Travelah VS. Ruleleven

Travelah vs. Rule Eleven: One of the quickest emerging drum & bass DJs in AZ, Travelah has climbed the ranks with the best and will demonstrate just how he got there. Rule Eleven, an elite veteran of Arizona, has the skill and style that no one can compare with. Together these two have a stage presence and a bangin' sound that will rock the party hard. On top of that, they will play together, each having their own set of turntables and mixers.
Their set is not to be missed!

Uberzone VS. Bassbin Twins

Bassbin Twins:
Bassbin Twins have been releasing records since 1992 including their own Bassbin Twins Volume series, EP’s for labels like Skint and Southern Fried, SSR, Marine Parade, Mute, Spidercuts, and remixes for artists including Boogie Down Productions, Evil Nine, DJ Punk Roc, Dub Pistols, Freakpower, etc. The Bassbin Twins live set is an anything goes mix bringing in broken beats both old and new, jacking tech house, electro, and funky drum and bass all put through the Bassbin blender and mashed in the name of up for it party music

Uberzone:
Uberzone is the brainchild of southern California native Q (named after the "gizmo" -loving James Bond character). Like his namesake, Q is a die-hard collector of all things electronic, and has been collecting electronic-music gear since his early teens.
His early singles, "Botz" and "The Freaks", released on taste-maker indie dance label City of Angels, were critically acclaimed club tracks that established Q as one of the leading American producers of breakbeat music. These singles were charted consistently by DJs like Florida's DJ Icey and the UK's Adam Freeland, among others. His remixes of Sarah McLachlan, The Crystal Method and BT also established him as one of the biggest names in the American dance scene. Spin Magazine named Uberzone as one of the six producers to create "the biggest beats ever."
Q does have Faith in the Future. "Sometime during my life I turned from a pessimist into an optimist. Faith in the Future ties into technology, electronic music and my lasting desire to live in the Jetson Age." Perhaps that's why Uberzone's debut album, "Faith in the Future" has a feeling to it unlike any other electronic album. It recalls influences from quirky sci-fantasy film soundtracks to "Planet Rock" to dream-pop to the energetic, future breaks that Uberzone has created in ways no one else can approach.

Michael James

John Haze

As John Haze of Tucson, Arizona enters his 10th year behind the decks, he continues his quest as ambassador for electronic dance music in a city dominated by Top 40 radio. His relentless beats have helped transform the city’s nighttime soundscape from a drab, uninspired collection of the “same-old, same-old”, into a creative, invigorating mix. In his third year as resident DJ for Tucson’s preeminent nightspot, Level Bar | Lounge, Haze frequently works the dancefloor into a frenzy, with hands in the air until the lights come on.

As a budding producer, John has burst on to Beatport with his remix of Leko's "Drip". Haze also has recent credits on the Full Tilt Remix series, several remixes that can only be heard at a live John Haze appearance, and other upcoming all-original productions. As this versatile DJ enters the next level, 2009 is shaping up to be his biggest year yet.

Dj Leko

You find it difficult to make out the shadowy figures springing upon you at arms length as you navigate blindly through the dense fog which flashes in colors synchronized to the vibrations rushing through your feet and up your legs. The setting is 1992, at Club Orpheus in Baltimore's Little Italy district. Genderless silhouettes take the form of the underworld's most Gothic creatures of the night, in pale white skin with streams of black dripping down their faces. Screaming into your ears are German industrial techno mavericks Front 242 hunting your head, and Nitzer Ebb coercing you to join in the chant

Having emerged from the Baltimore underground scene to infect dancefloors across the USA and around the world, Leko has enlisted with superstar Bryan Cox and his Crux Records army of the world's premier jackin' fidget maximal house producers. With fidget's heavy Baltimore club music influence, Leko carries with him a unique and deeply-ingrained perspective to the genre.

Dj Flowchart VS. Kenny

Dj Flowchart:
As a veteran dj/promoter of the Tucson scene for over 6 years now, Flowchart has been around long enough to know you can’t stay rooted to one thing for too long. So naturally this drum and bass dj has made his way to spinning different genres, mainly Nu School house and Breaks. As usual with Flow’s sets, there won’t be a drop off in energy or skill coming from the decks, just a frenzied dance floor asking for more.

Dj Kenny

djkenny at bassfizzix

Kenny has started djing in the winter of 99. His love of dance music started in 96 when he first heard Daft Punks "around the world". Kenny later went to the uk for vacation in the summer of 99 after graduating from high school, this is where is learned about underground music and the rave scene after going to a party with his friend shakey in London. When kenny returned to the States he went to his first rave in arizona called translucent. This is where he decided he wanted to be a dj. That year he started buying records at Sound Factory getting into the funky house and progressive trance sound. In august of 2000 kenny and his friends created Surreal Entertainment and went on to throw the first EarthDance parties in tucson as well as One of the biggest parties ever in arizona the Liquid Lotus festival. Kenny then started working at the famous Sound Factory where he polished his skills with the help of Dj Alex Ruiz and Seth Myles. Kenny has Played with some of the biggest djs from the US like Donald Glaude, Dj Dan, Tall Paul, and many more. When Kenny plays he always brings something fresh to the decks and loves funky grooves with heavy basslines. Currently when kenny plays out you can catch him playing everyhting from Nuschool breaks to Dub Step. With a feel for the old school dj kenny is a musical rebel droppin beats on another level.

Jeff VS. Jessmar

Jessmar:
Jessmar, a veteran in the electronic dance music scene has been putting down science since 2001. Jessmar has been igniting dancefloors afire alongside local scene kings including CL McSpadden, Seth Myles, Alex Reez, Kenny and visiting superstars like Donald Glaude, Dave Aude, J Splat just to name a few.

Jeff Romea:
Jeff Romea is a blazing hot up and comer who surely satisfies any crowd he has encountered. Though his short repetoire, Jeff Romea has the skills to run with the AZ underground kings, turning heads consistently with his sound.

The combination of these two musically like minded individuals creates a creative synergy of Progressive and Tech house. Add the technicality and the energy provided by the duo, and you will experience a pounding funk of darkness with a splash of beauty.

Rize VS. Cojami

Rize:
Sooo yah.. I have been raving for just about 12 years. For the last 8 years or so I've been playing uk/happy hardcore music under the moniker DJ Rize. Since early 2004, I have been promoting events under the name Best of Times Entertainment in AZ. I've met some amazing people along the way and feel very fortunate to have the friends that i do.... we have started up a label called Mad Panik Records. Currently our catalogue is available for mp3 download at imodownload.com and can be found here at myspace.com/madpanik... Most of the mixes i've done since late 2003 can be found at djrize.com. Anyway, if you have any questions, comments, booking inquiries, demos, or just wanna chat, hit me up. a i m .. rize337 or rize@djrize.com.

Cojami:
I was raised in Northern California, and currently go to the University of Arizona, studying Consumer Science and Retailing. I have been going to parties since my early teens, but i fell in love with the bass long before that. I can say that the feelings i had when i walked into my first party are along the lines of coming home after a long vacation away. I felt comfortable, and more importantly, like i found a group of people that was so dynamic and diverse that they were on the same level as me. There are a few times in a persons life where they can say they have had a true epiphany; that was most certainly one of mine.

Shane Orrin aka Sickx

Shane Orrin aka Sickx:
Well known for years around Tucson for his drum and bass dj skills, this multi-faceted dj has also gained a strong reputation for being able to light a dance floor up by throwing down a burning set of sick electro house or breaks with the same dynamic programming and precision cuts from all his performances. From gabber to house and back to drum and bass, no matter the style, he’s most-likely taken it on and conquered it.

Dj Detale

Dj Detale:
Dj Detale is a name that continuously echoes through the dance scene! With such a passion for trance, both old and new, Detale is known for dropping the occasional anthem track just to keep you on your toes. Since his love for trance spawned back in 99, Detale has been recruited into several production crews including Conspiracy of Hope, he started his own online mix show, and played at several renowned parties with top of the line talent. Looking to the future this DJ sees nothing more imperative than being able to share his love for trance with anyone out there who dares to listen. His unrelenting passion for music is unique and powerful and has turned countless heads in the past and will continue to do so in the future. For this set especially, expect nothing less than pure “Detale”.
