Did not meet expectations
The night before Imaginationland I went to Freeze and it was so good that I just had to rave again the next night. This isn't normal for me as I usually rave once or twice a month but as I said Freeze was just that good. Imaginationland, however, was a compleatly diffrent story.

First, the music. I'm a fan of almost all types of electronic music, and was impressed to see Wub and Wilfee on the flier and was looking forward to some Brit Talent, but he looked bored on stage, it almost sounded like he pluged in a mix from his iPod and just let it play. Also, the local talent was just in bad form, they didn't seem prepared or like they gave a crap about the event, almost every DJ crashed or screwed up the beat match on at least a handful of trasitions.

Next, the lighting. It looks like the producer threw togeather the lighting for one stage with glow paint, construction paper, colored lights, and some visual tracks that either came with windows media player, an ipod app, or a downloaded youtube video. On the second stage, most of the lights cut out before 10:00 and just stayed off leaving the stage mostly unlit for the rest of the night. I wonder if more then $50 was spent on lighting at all.

Last, the vibe at this party was shit. I did meet a lot of great new people but i also almost got in two fights just for accidently bumping into some guy or some guy's girlfriend. The smoking area was packed and I have alot of kandie, its possible I may hit someone and when I do, I appologise, but both of these guys took me bumping them as personal attacks and like wanted to kill me for it. PLUR?? not really. I also saw 3-4 people carried out either spasming or ODing. I don't wanna see that shit at a rave, and I know it happens alot, but little 14 year old girls and newbie ravers taking 4-6 pills of extacy is what gives our scene a bad name, and there was a hell of alot of this last night.

Overall, the promoters did a shitty job. It seems like they were out for pure money last night, and they didn't care how shitty of a party they through. For the first time, I can say i was legitimatly bored at a rave and that sucks. It's shitty ass parties like Imaginationland that beg the question, is PLUR dead. The easy answer, at Freeze it wasn't, but at Imaginationland, yes PLUR was compleatly dead.

it's good to see events being reviewed on here, we need more honesty rather than arse kissing. Glad you had a great time at Freeze, sorry about last night. I think the difference might be that one actually cares about the music and put their all into it, where the other is a scenester trying to buy a win at the popularity contest. Just my opinion of course.

Sorry to hear you didn't have a good one last night mate. In terms of looking bored though, really? I had a whale of a time on stage and was a heck of a lot more animated than I usually am.

Out of interest, what was it that you found boring? Was it song selection, the way the set was ordered, over use of samples, transititions etc?

i didnt get to hear much of the music, so i cant really comment on that. i agree with the quoted summarization tho; the lighting was noticeably subpar imo. i dont typically throw a lotta money into lighting for my events either, but i myself would have wanted more than what was there.

i think overall the event wasnt too bad, it was a decent first (?) rave for graphix. trust me, its not easy or cheap to do these events, and graphix pretty much did this all on his own. i give him props for that. that said, i think $20 was overpriced for what was given: a one and a half (open decks isnt really a stage is it?) stage party with a mediocre UK headliner (no offense to WUB, but he's essentially just a UK club dj, a la DJ tranzit out here) and weak lighting, very little props.

i'm a firm believer in pricing events accordingly. this event could have and should have been no more than $15, so to that end, i agree with paris' statement: it did not meet expectations.

With a party being in the same venue the night before, we wanted to try and offer something different than the same exact set up two nights in a row.
We tried to offer a different event, and we did our best which is more than I can say for a lot of people.
Thank you though for the constructive criticism Phaze! With you being one of the promoters I look up to I take everyting you say to heart.
Expect bigger and better things next year from wacky weenies and under our umbrella! Plans are already in the works :)
