i'll be sure not to take pictures of you, hun...

So that way we can make sure neither the photographer or the site who assumes the rights to their images gets credit right?

p.s. if your goin to take the dsi off from the corner of the photo dont bother finding me at a event to spot you!

oh honey, it appears that YOU are the stupid bitch who needs to shut up.
:)

anyways, are you really that dumb that you can't see that the main point of my post is not about the dsi box? can you really not see the main point?

Copyright infringement.
If I've taken a picture of you and you have taken out the DSI/plurlife logo, I could actually charge you for using the picture and you could get fined by the government.

gg.

False.

photolaw.net

Copyright gives the creator or author of a work the power to control the work. The owner of the copyright has the exclusive right to control if, when, how and how often his or her work can be used or copied.

Generally, the person who creates a work is the owner of the copyright. Thus, independent artists, photographers and writers own the copyrights to their works. The only exceptions to this rule occur when a work is created by an employee as part of his or her job duties or when a work is created under a written ìwork-for-hireî agreement.

For example, free-lance photographers own the copyrights to the images that they allow to newspapers or magazines to publish. However, absent an agreement that provides otherwise, a newspaper or magazine will own the copyright to all works that their staff journalists and photographers create as part of their job responsibilities.

Now then if you'll take a look at the DSI terms and conditions (dontstayin.com you will see

1. You acknowledge and agree that all copyright, trade marks and all other intellectual property rights in all materials and/or content made available via the Site shall remain at all times vested in us or our licensors.
2. You grant us a perpetual and irrevocable licence to use at our sole discretion all the content which you upload or otherwise supply to the Site. Such content shall include but not be limited to the words and photographs supplied by you to the Site.

Basically if you upload a photo to DSI, it becomes THEIR property. As a photographer I find this revolting and therefore generally refuse to upload photos to this site.

What I'm basically getting at though is this: Just because the photo was taken OF YOU does not grant you license to do with it as you please. If you were photographed in a public place or public event where it can be reasonably assumed that your image will be captured, you own no right to it.

Are you going to get in trouble for using an image without permission? Probably not.

Is it rude to post a photo and strip off the logo (assuming it wasnt made available to download without it) or at least give the photographer credit? Of course it is.

However.. we are in the middle of an era that doesn't respect previous notions of intellectual property or copyright, and it's unreasonable to expect that a person who doesn't feel a musician deserves to be compensated for their work would be bothered to just CREDIT a photographer with his/her work.

tl;dr: If you upload photos to DSI, they own them, if you download photos from DSI please dont be an asshole an give credit where credit is due.

You are actually breaking copyright law.

I suggest you read the terms & conditions on Dontstayin:
dontstayin.com

You might also want to read the box when you download images at full size:
Click here to download this photo (562x567)
This photo remains copyright of ______ and any use of this photo must be authorised by the copyright holder. This is in accordance with our terms and conditions.

The photos on Dontstayin belong to the photographers, regardless of who is in them, so you may want to get their permission before using the photos, otherwise you are stealing and may be taken to court.

No - you grant them a license to use it.

You grant us a perpetual and irrevocable licence to use at our sole discretion all the content which you upload or otherwise supply to the Site.

The clue's in the word "license". The copyright and moral rights are still yours.
