Carlos Castillo or DJ Odi as he is known to the world, is in great part responsible for the entire style of jungle music in NYC. His break came around after high school, when running promotions for the famous NASA rave parties at club Shelter. It was there that he grew into a steady DJing slot. Odi rapidly became a fixture, while continuing to travel the country, one of the first few to enjoy such popularity. Odi and his record label remained prolific in the recent year, DJing constantly while putting out a mix CD and producing for multiple other artists. The next step for Odi is his upcoming artist’s album and taking his music online for digital distribution. But most of all, he would just like to continue playing, unconstrained by genre. “They have names for all the different styles, but I like it better when it was just music,” says Odi, smiling. “When it comes down to it, no one really knows the difference.” Words by Igor Kossov
For the last 14 years, TJR has been weaving in and out of the electronic music world as a DJ and a producer. His djing roots began in North Carolina where he went to college for golf but discovered mixing and scratching instead. After graduating in 1998 he went full throttle with djing by making a name for himself with track selections and a scratching technique that set him apart from the rest. He managed to win a few DJ battles along the way and was featured in URB Magazine as a DJ to watch in the future. A few years back he used his DJ background to star producing and has released tracks on some of the most cutting edge labels around including: Potty Mouth, Wearhouse, In Stereo, Eden Records, Catalyst, Tonewrecker, Promo Records and more! He continues to craft his skill in the studio as well as on the decks and he is showing no signs of slowing anytime soon! See one performance and you'll understand why TJR is a house hold name.
