For these whom have had the opportunity to make it to Ibiza, The Winter Music Conference, The Dance event in Amsterdam and others similar, you would agree with me that the ESCUELA party’s in St. Louis are the closes thing to actually being there. The vibe was so cool at times you had to fight your way to the dance floor. The unmistaken raw talent of Detroit’s Parana Head and Chicago’s Darryl Awesome Owens had the Upstairs Lounge jumping all night long. It was a night DEEP, SOULFUL, GOSPEL house with accents on drums by LIKUID that some in the crowd have been craving for a long time. The music industry has changed so much in the past 5 to 10 years and in St. Louis I’ve watched some of the most popular trendy spots go from Dance/House Electronica to Top 40. There are a growing number of people in the STL and other cities that have been missing those wonderful years when we had the choice of music that we wanted to dance and chill to. A little more that three years ago I tried to connect with many people that had a strong name in St. Louis, but my feeling was most felt threaten by the fact that a DJ from Chicago (me) was trying to restart house music in STL if you will. In the meantime the scene dwindled down to almost nothing. So a few of us decided to take it on are own and do some small and medium size venues. The response has been overwhelming in most if not all cases including ESCUELA @ Upstairs lounge. The first event was September 1st 2007 and it continues on the first Saturday of each month with February 2, 2008 being the largest night ever. Maybe it was the fact that it was RAVEN FOX’ birthday but it’s been increasing evident that ESCUELA grows in numbers each month. My hats off to FLY and other company’s for bringing so many talents from around the globe giving St. Louis the opportunity to check out the big name talents that most never would never get the chance to see. But I call on all companies to band together and exploit your very own talent here in St. Louis and support each other! Happy Birthday RAVEN FOX it was another great night. We will see you again next month.
