New, Old, and Different Music
It made me happy to see so many people (young and old) getting down to house and breaks at Discotropolis this weekend. It gave me some optimism, and with that, it made me want to do more to make the rave-going community in Arizona aware of just how much musical variety is available to them. There are some sounds/styles in dance music that don't get much (if any) representation or exposure in the raves and clubs out here. There are also a lot of very talented and experienced DJs living in Arizona that don't play out much at all - many of these people have been doing this a long time and have much to offer that is unique.

So, for starters, I want this thread to be a place where we all share links to and talk about music. I'd really like it to be one of the "serious" threads here on DSI (with minimal unrelated chatter), where everybody shares links to music that they think is special, unique, different, interesting, etc. Music is, after all, the main reason we're here.

I'll start:

The Loudspeaker
DJ Matty
The Fresh Page - all sorts of House
FWD.DJ
Area 709 (Canada)
Moontribe (California)
Dan Efex (Chicago)

Those are just a few. There should be enough there to keep you all busy for weeks. I hope you all take some time to check this stuff out - there's a lot out there that you're not getting to hear at parties, and you might like some of it.

Cheers!

It's pretty simple. Linking is one of the most basic aspects of HTML you can learn, and they have a handy wizard here on the site to do it. You can just copy the URL from your browser's address bar and paste it into the text of your post. Or, you can click on the "Link" button, then use the "If you would like to customise the text that appears in the page for your link, click here" function, paste the URL into the box, highlight the text in your post that you want to turn into a link, and then click "Insert Link."

I also wanna hear more PsyTrance out here. Some sexy electro house would be nice too.

Check this Dark Psy mix out from AzEDM that ends at 271 BPM ^_^

The clubs are loaded with electro house. It seems like that's all anyone plays in clubs anymore. Just about any time someone's booked to play house at a rave, it's electro house.

I'll be playing some psytrance at Fire Flower on Friday. Matty and I will be playing some really good house (of many styles) at Fusion on Saturday.

The 271 BPM mix was made at Survivor Syndrome in Illinois. I had to miss that set because I was playing in the chill room. :)

I'm too young for clubs and I guess I miss it at raves >.<

I'll be at your stage for both ;)
That is if I go to both. Hopefully I do. Blah work.

Then download some (if you haven't already). *grin* There's three psytrance mixes on the first link I posted.

Then, of course, there's Philosomatika.

The club thing won't last forever. I know it sucks, but be patient. You're not missing that much anyway.

As for parties, if you want to hear some electro-ish house, look for these DJs:

Luminous
Jeff Trevors aka Amnesia
Harmonious
Tranzit
Substation
Matty Stutz
Michael James
Abstract
Chuck Steed
Kevin Brown
Casper
Chuck C
Josh Nelson
Lujan
Matty

Not all of them play electro house all the time, but these folks are your best bet.

the club scene blows anyway. nothing but trendy, snobby assholes flaunting their looks and money. the rave scene is about community. the club scene is about SELF.

Superficiality is the word I'd use for it. I have no issue with Self, as long as Self doesn't override respect for the rights of others. I'd agree with the community aspect, so long as it doesn't translate into collectivist thinking. If anything, I'd say the rave culture is much more empowering to individualism and meaningful, genuine values.

Anyway - MUSIC! Anyone else want to post some links to your favorite local (or non-local) DJs/Musicians/etc?
